[Netflix] The Misconception About Internet Fast Lanes - Page 4

So, it's not that they are using the bandwidth, they are merely using that as an excuse to extort even more?

how many billions have the isp's gotten?

and this is the best they could do?!

I didn't know my ISP offered more than 6Mbps DSL until last week. They rolled it out and then didn't tell anybody (at least existing customers anyway) about it...I found out incidently through a 3rd party site after doing a search for a new ISP in my area. Tomorrow I got a guy coming out to install a bonded DSL connection that's supposed to be good for 24Mbps and I got them to waive the $99.00 install fee and got a 3 year price guarantee on the new service that's $54.99 a month which is actually a dollar less than what I pay now without a contract. I live in a rural area (as in I have to "drive to town" to get to Walmart), we don't have Comcast, Verizon (Frontier bought them out in my area and is who I have now), TWC, etc.

I urge anybody that lives in a rural area, if you haven't talked to your ISP about speed increases in a while to give them a call, otherwise they probably won't tell you about the faster service you could be getting.

I think this pay for fast lane is bs and more compaines need to compete against these gaints so we can not get nailed with this bs.

You know what i hate the most, is how verizon cell phone used to have unlimited data for 30$ now since they greedy u only get 2GB for the same price like what!? 2gb?! that is such a ripoff, hence why i dont have verizon anymore

Sounds like you worked for my company at one point cause that is all they do...they bought the facility(independent company) I work in...and ever since they have been doing their best to squeeze the golden goose for more eggs while driving the business into the ground all in the name of.....short term profit...Not sure I will have a job 3 years from now, they have essentially pissed off every customer with their "improvements"....

Precisely....our company has outright told us they aquisition other businesses to add to their portfoilio...Here is the kicker though...That is all they do, buy out other businesses, they dont do anything that is "capital intensive" after they buy the company, in other words, little or no Research and Development... damn good way to wreck business after business...

Sounds like you're around Brandywine in WV. I was stationed in that area and I remember when Verizon offered their 3-6Mbps DSL. Around late 2010, Frontier bought them out and began offering bonded DSL lines around 20-25Mbps.. To me, that isn't bad at all and you definitely got a great deal! Just be careful if you're leasing their equipment. They tried to hit us with a fee about not returning their hardware after we moved and these guys even attemped to file a negative hit on my credit because of it...

A lot of us smaller guys don't bother with rolling out new pricing structures to all the individual customers for the following reasons....

  • Man power.
  • Cost of notification.
  • Customers complain we are "soliciting" them - or are otherwise the rudest people.

E-mail used to work, back in the day when you had an e-mail with your ISP almost exclusively. It was an easy way to just drop a mass e-mail to all customers to notify them of things, but now everyone runs a third party offering (which is perfectly fine if I do say so myself), so that is out.
