my knowledge of thermal paste are simply what i've read from OCN and other reputable sites but no personal experience so I can not give you accurate recommendation.
Don't feel bad. I've been mounting CPUs for 30 years now, and I still use AS5 for most of my projects at home. Of course, I have 3x 25g tubes of the stuff laying around, so I probably have enough for another 30 years. LOL.
Honestly, there's only a few degrees C difference between AS5 and the "best" pastes out there. The only thing I don't like about AS5 is the viscosity and curing time - but both are minor irritations. MX-2 is probably my favorite low-viscosity paste, and it's over a decade old as well.
