Heya, as said I'm a first-timer OC'er and I'm having some issues, I've gone through guides and videos for about 3-4 days now and familiarized myself with some of the BIOS settings but I've not been able to find a proper OC-guide for my MB (ASUSTeK P9X79 WS). I've maybe pushed my luck with a multiplier of 44, a bus speed of 100MHz (3.5 to 4.4GHz) and CPU voltage set to 1.22 manually, but this issue is happening wether I have the multiplier at 40 or 44.

The main issue is that the CPU voltage is sitting at 1.328V when idle and bouncing from 1.17-1.22V when under stress-testing even after setting it manual in the BIOS to 1.22V, which makes the CPU frequency drop from 4400MHz(idle) to 3600MHz(under load). The temperatures are around 60-65ºC idle with max load temperature jumping up to 80ºC and then steadily going down and sitting at 75ºC. Is it some sort of security because of the already high CPU voltage which makes it lower the frequency because of the temperature, or have I overlooked some BIOS settings?

What I've done in BIOS:
- increased CPU multiplier from 35 to 44
- set CPU volt to 1.22 manually.
- disabled Spread Spectrum

I believe I've got the very basics for overclocking down, but I'm betting it's just something I've done wrong in the BIOS, could anyone school me on this?

CPU: Intel Core i7-3970X
RAM: Crucial DDR3 BallistiX Sport 16GB @ 1600MHz
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 120M
MB: ASUSTeK P9X79 WS
