Is a 750w Gold PSU enough for GTX 970 SLI

Thread Starter
I have a i7-4790K CPU
I currently have a ASUS Strix GTX 970

EVGA SuperNova 750W G2 Gold.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438017&cm_re=evga_750w-_-17-438-017-_-Product

I am thinking of getting a second GTX 970 for SLI, and I am going to do some OC on CPU and GPU

Would my PSU be able to provide all the juice?

it shouldn't be a problem unless you do some extreme oc 1600mhz on each card with 4790k running at 5.0. Even then you are just pushing the psu to the limit.

~ oc load is 150+150+200+100=600w. 600/0.8 ~750w exactly.

this is a very rough guess, just don't push everything too hard (it should still work).

Will even power on 3x 970s

Confused by this. You're saying the psu is good for 600w only since it's 750w

Because it's 748.8w on the 12v rail with 90% efficiency(for eg) means it can pull 832w from the wall?

Am I wrong?

na, i just use a .8 multiplier for aging, assuming you will be using that psu for at least 3 years,, and it ends up pretty damn close to the online psu calculator. It will never need to draw 832w from the wall (in real world conditions) lol.

you can try the calculator online and i bet it'll say something between 650-750w recommended

i just add the cpu load+the 2 cards+100 for everything else.
