Pioneer S-DJ50X unbox & review

Hey fellow OCN members! smile.gif In this thread I'm going to give my honest and impartial opinion about the Pioneer S-DJ50X monitors.

Before I start I would like to say that everyone has a different set of ears so what sounds good to me might not to you.

The Tannoy Reveal 502, KRK Rokit 5 G3 and the JBL LSR305 were taken into consideration and given a proper listen to my audio library
(not all of it of course that would take years! biggrin.gif)

I decided to go for the Pioneers as they sounded the best to my ears. In comparison:

1. Tannoy - sounded like highs and lows no mids. Very odd speakers. Very clear high range but tend to be tiring on the ears, too harsh somehow...

2. KRK - All mids smile.gif compared to the Tannoy and Pioneer they sound very distant and muddy. The store rep assured me that you have to listen to them for a while before you start enjoying the sound that these speakers produce and I did find tracks that complimented the KRK's sound signature but they were not for me.

3. JBL - very good speakers. Massive sweet spot. Two negatives:
- Rear ported which is not ideal for my positioning in the room and
- Too precise? I find these soulless, no sound signature, too analytic for my taste. Otherwise highly recommended speaker.

4. Pioneer - Best combination IMHO. I swear I don't get why these speakers are not recommended more often. Awesome sound.
If you are on the market for some studio monitors give these a listen you wont be disappointed! thumb.gif

Now for the pics of the unboxing:

Wonder how these compare to the Audioengine A5+. I mean I know there's a huge difference in price but Pioneer isn't a slouch when it comes to speakers. They've got some cheap bookshelf speakers that sound amazing.

Never heard the Audioengine A5+ as they haven't got a dealer in my country, but been reading some good things about them.
