oh man, I don't envy you one bit. Every time I install Samba 4 I get so wound up with it that I end up downgrading to v3.x.
I've never used any GUIs for Samba so I can't really offer any specific help there, but the smb.conf isn't too painful to get your head around. So it might be worth going back to basics (so to speak) and reviewing what's in the config file just in case your GUI front end is leading you down the garden path.
Also I assume you've read through the appropriate wikis?
Arch wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/samba
(If you're not already aware, Arch's Wiki is an invaluable resource. It's one of the best documented resources out there for Linux)
Samba's wiki: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Main_Page
(not sure how much help this would be, but it might highlight some configuration options you've not stumbled across already)
And lastly, I found this cheatsheet which might or might not be of any use: http://obihoernchen.net/877/setup-samba-4-on-arch-linux/
