970 coil whine on loading or menu screens for games - Page 2

I just noticed something. Should the Evga card do this?

"Does the video card fans shake or turn a little every 5 seconds or so. They're not running now on internet but I do see them shake just a little every 5 seconds like they want to turn on."

Also about PSU's. What other brands would you suggest? Seasonic, or Antec for examples. It doesn't matter now because I just built the computer a few months ago and the Corsair has a 7 year warranty. But just in case.

I have the same GPU as you and i can confirm that the random fan speed up is normal. I can also tell you that you are extremely lucky to only have the coil whine in high fps situations. My 970 FTW squeals like a dying pig no matter what game I am in or what my framerate is. From what i have been told is that you can solve coil whine issues by "burning it in". Find where the coil whine is at its worst, and let it run on that for 24-26 hours. Some have claimed that this method works, while others say it doesnt. So i'm guessing its worth a shot if the coil whine bothers you immensely. thumb.gif

Not really because it's only loud during the loaded screens but considering how much money for 1 video card? You kinda want it to be close to perfect. If Newegg will take the card back and it fails or coil whines too much and is too loud, send that thing back lil' doggie and get a another one till it's fixed.

It does coil whine when I am running Valley or Heaven. But only with vsync or tessellation on. I can hear it whine when I am running a extreme test but it's nowhere near the loaded or menu screens. I noticed it right away when Far Cry 4 booted up.

I turn Valley or Heaven on when I sleep. About 6-8 hr run time.

In the end its all about what you are willing to do. Coil whine is not dangerous to the card whatsoever, its just the sound the coils make as the electric current flows through them. If you really feel as though the card is too loud and is deemed "ridiculous for the money you spent on it" then you can RMA it to EVGA, this problem is well known with their 970 FTW's and they have been RMAing the cards whose coil whine is unacceptable. However on the other side of things you can attempt to fix the problem yourself with the burn in test. Or if neither of these solutions fit suit then the only other option is to continue to put up with the coil whine. thumb.gif

The moment I'm out of the house or asleep, I turn in on and let it run. How long should I let it go for? One day, a couple of days or a 1 week?

Is this on this site?

"this problem is well known with their 970 FTW's and they have been RMAing the cards whose coil whine is unacceptable."

I joined a couple months ago and haven't really looked at everything. It might be because I am so close to my computer. I wanted to make sure it was easy to clean my case (HAF XB) with the 3 removable sides. I just got my second video card in a couple of days ago so I have about 3 weeks to let it run. If something comes up, or it whines alot, then I sent it back for another one. I hear Evga has a good warranty. But then again, most companies have about the same. 2-3 years tops unless you pay for more.

I just wanted to hear the video card since alot of people are complained about it. It get right and let it run for week or so, and then go to headphones for all night gaming.
