They are not bad, but if you are going with speed it is better to buy a 128GB ssd for $40-50 or a 256GB for $80-100.

Really depends on the use. The price of SSHD's is pretty attractive but you will only see the performance gain over a HDD in some situations. If it's going to be the sole drive and you're on a budget then I highly recommend it. I have a 2.5" Toshiba SSHD which was great as the only drive in my old laptop giving fast boot times etc. It now sits as a second drive in my ITX build having gone with a smallish SSD for the OS drive. I still see some benefit as my Steam drive lives on there.

Going from OS on the SSHD to OS on SSD didn't make as much of a difference as I expected to be honest, though that could be due to the way I use the machine, using a relatively small number of programmes every day. Put another way I saw a much bigger difference going from HDD to SSHD than from SSHD to SSD for OS drive with my usage.

I really wish work would give us SSHD's though. Even though my work machine is an i7 3770 it's feels slower than my old core2duo laptop most of the time because of the hard disk!
