Cooling Update

CPU Cooler: Cryorig R1 Universal **Ordered**
Case Fans 120mm:13 x Corsair AF120 Quiet Edition **Ordered**
Case Fans 140mm:1 x Corsair AF140 Quiet Edition **Ordered**
Fan Splitters: Phobya Various **Ordered**
Fan Controller: Lamptron FC5 V3 **Ordered**

Looking forward to these guys. It means I can start painting and then start all my wiring. The goal will be to hide every possible wire in the frame. Spent an hour or so planning it today and once these arrive I will know exactly how it will work. I'm really looking forward to the Lamptron FC5 V3 and it's control options. I want to use the thermal sensors so the hard part will be hiding their wiring but again, I have some ideas biggrin.gif

I chose the Corsair fans and specifically the Quiet Editions for a few reasons. After going through an insane amount of reviews, tests and roundups they basically had the best CFM-to-Noise ratio for it's price. I would love Gentle Typhoons but we're talking like three times the price and with this amount of fans the numbers start to get scary. The other reason I went for these is because of their looks. I usually don't like to let this be a factor but it was something I wanted to try to achieve this time around. The most interesting point I found in my research was that the Corsair AF120QE outperforms the SP120QE and has been on par with the SP120PE when used on a radiator at a fraction of the noise (which is nice if I want use these for watercooling down the track). You can find those details in this source as and if you search further on other websites and reviews the same result is echoed. They had the best sound/noise profile of the fans I've listened to in various videos. And finally, their reviews had the most consistent results across all reviews and tests so I can only assume that the quality control across the board is decent and I shouldn't expect too many surprises. In the end I counted...I read 57 different tests and reviews on this fan. Finger crossed it becomes a reality.

Apparently everything is in stock so I should see this order Friday or next Monday if all goes well thumb.gif

Thanks for the replies so far and the subs. The fans and CPU cooler will be hear soon so once they are here and painted I might be able to gauge the amount of gold in the case, I think I'll need to be careful not to go over-the-top. Also, I've been working on some other goodies that I'll post up soon thumb.gif

I like the 24 pin from option 2, but I prefer the PCI-e look in option 1! I like stuff to look symmetrical so that's just me, if I had to chose I'd go with number 2.

Thanks for coming along for the ride!
Hehe, I'm a symmetry man too so that single gold cable was a big step for me lachen.gif but so far I think I'm really digging it. My other thought on it is if I move up to a bigger card with 2 x 8pins, symmetry shall be back and glorious lol
Just got word that I'll have the fans on Friday so I'll paint them as soon as I get them and we can all check out the gold factor tongue.gif
Time to go paint shopping!

We have 1 fan and paint! wheee.gif

They had one fan on hand when I went in to complete my order (had to add one more twin pack) so I grabbed it and on the way home I stopped at a local auto shop. They do custom paint mixes that can be put straight into a spray can. I'll start a few coats after I test the fan and then I'll start some painting and take as many photos as I can along the way. I think the colour will match well. Wish me luck biggrin.gif

Tested the AF140QE and it is extremely quiet. I ran it side by side with my Noctua NFA14 PWM and it was quieter at the same speed and judging by a hand at the back seemed to have the same if not more air flow on the exhaust side. For now, my mind = blown!

First coat on in my ghetto paint booth tongue.gif Not much room in my garage - motorbike, dog food, baby gate, racing parts, it's all happening!

So far the colour looks on the money! biggrin.gif

So I played with the paint a little and started on another ring - thankfully the fans come with two spares. Ladies and Gentleman...I think I've nailed it!

Now to just add a clear coat or two to blend a little more and we are golden...see what I did there tongue.gif
