DDR3 RAM Vendors compared? Do you have brand preferences?

Do you have any particular brand loyalties right now to certain companies of RAM?

Top RAM Choices:
  • Right now I find myself buying more and more G.Skill more than anything else. The Ripjaws series is a pretty decent value and the Trident X I think is among the best RAM that money can buy for overclocking.
  • Mushkin's Blacklines seem like pretty good value as well, and their Redlines are pretty decent overclockers.
  • Team Group I have had decent experiences with as well when it comes to RAM. I'd give G.Skill's TridentX the edge compared to the Team Elite RAM though.

I sometimes used Micron's Crucial line of value RAM, but not their overclocking RAM. It's a decent value. Samsung makes good RAM too, but it's often not available to the general customer. It's a pity really that Samsung does not make a high end binned line of RAM.

I generally only go for the above 5 brands. I have had some bad experiences with Kingston so I avoid them. Avexir RAM kits look good, but they use a lot of Elpida chips. Corsair has good customer support, but they are expensive from a cost to quantity of RAM standpoint. Sometimes Patriot has decent kits, but they don't seem to OC as well as G.Skill.

Your thoughts?

I don't have any preferences myself. I opt to go for middle ground speeds of 1866MHz and about 8GB of it. I always get low profile (LP) RAM so I don't have any issues in the future with CPU heatsinks. My current kit is Corsair, but I own many OCZ kits, Patriot, G.Skill and Kingston and they all still work.

For a few months now, G.Skill Trident X RAM is using the best chips you can buy. With DDR4 released, there won't be any more new production for DDR3 so you'll def want to get a set soon if you care about DDR3 performance. They may get hard to find or prices go up because of it. rolleyes.gif
