Hello guys,

few days ago i looked at the mods in the OCN Beigemodders Club and i was well impressed with all the mods. Even thou i'm now in designing my news S7 desk i could not help my self then to do a Beigemod. So I know that my father in law has some old PC laying around that he wanted to trow away so i found the case and saw that was a bit small for my idea. Then i went online and found that some one was giving away a tower case, but it had no picture, so i told him that i will take the case no matter what it look like as long as it was a bigger case.

So today i came home with this
biggrin.gif
a Celeron 2000Mzh with a gig of RAM and 2 HHD one with 15GB and other with 20 GB :DDDD There is also a 64 MB graphic card and a 4 port USB card. But the case looks cool, with the handle and all.

And the mod will go as follows:

The bottom case will be cut in half and turned into a cool box, ill use the radiator with the 4x8cm fans from the black case that was left over from my S7 desk build, and in the top case ill replace the Celeron with a AMD Athlon something
smile.gif
that i have laying around and water cool the CPU, and will paint all in a White and Orange color theme.

So I already started tearing the case apart

The fron panel has a great little compartment that hides the USB, i0m thinking to take that out an replace it with a temp monitor.

Got all the guts out of the case

and prepared one fan for painting

I'm glad to hear that our BeigeModders club could inspire you. Technically my Dark Sidw build is a BeigeMod as well (10-13 yr old case) I'm excited to see what you come up with. It's fun to mess around with a system that you don't have to worry about messing up.

#3 ·
Im also very interested to see what will come out of it
smile.gif
It's nice to not to worry about all the hardware being damaged in the process of modding. But i still want to make something that will look good at the end.

Now i saw that you have the exact same mobo in your Darkside build as i have in the S7 desk
biggrin.gif
rock on!!

Nice. What's the odds of us having the same mobo. It used to be a beast back in it's heyday.

Hey! I got linked here from the BeigeModders page, sub'd!

Looks like a good plan to me,does your father-in-law happen to have any used small car Radiators laying around? You might be able to get an even bigger cooling surface!

Would have to check around to see if there are any that dont leak, i know 2 or 3 are laying around the but they leak
smile.gif
I'll cool only the CPU so this one should be OK. Or if i put a car radiator in i would not need to cut the botttom case
biggrin.gif

Thanks for the sub

It might not be practical, but I was just thinking: You can never have too much overkill...
biggrin.gif

Can't wait to see how this develops!

Checked around the house and there are only big damaged radiators ready to be taken to the dump.... so will stick with this one for the time being

maybe for a new project

UPDATE

i test painted today the 8cm vent and the casing with white primer to see how this will look like, will spray the vent in orange at the end

And i did not have lots of time today to do much but i started the demolition of the main case

I took of the top cover and removed the HDD mounts

luckily the PC was so dusty that it left a perfect dusk mark on the spot where i need to cut out a hole for the top fan
biggrin.gif

I'm planing to cut down the HDD stands so they can hold 2 disks and make custom trays to hold them in place, also test fitted a 750W PSU i have left over in the case and it fits perfectly. Tomorrow i expect to get by mail a used pump, reservoir and a CPU water block that is sadly missing the springs... but got that all under € 30. Dose any one know where i could buy just the springs?

I'm digging the progress. I've also heard that heater cores work great as a rad. I haven't tried it myself but, I looked into it a while back. I'm excited to see more.

Thanks man! Do you know if what kind of springs are used for the CPU block, can it be any spring or they are specific?

#14 ·
Mine doesn't have spring due to the aftermarket Asus cooler. Realistically any that are similar diameter and length should work though. I'm not sure if you have a harbor freight near you but, they sell a spring kit that has just about every size. I think I bought the kit for about $5 or less. If you have some springs that are close you should be fine.

Will see tomorrow when i get the CPU block what the situation is exactly. Found also that EKWB sells mounting kits separate and for €6 so may get that despite that the CPU block is not from EK

Nice. One thing you don't want to use is springs that are too soft. This is important because in these kind of setups the springs are what hold the water block (heat sink) to the processor.

Ps. You should join BeigeModders as well.

#18 ·
I couldn't sleep so went back and mounted up the mobo and put a HHD in to see the space layout a bit better, and to measure up a few things

ReaperN1 - pls don't tell me that you also have this mobo in your inventory, as that would be really scary

yes that is what im worried about, but looking on that i got it so cheap ill maybe try to find another used AM2 block that has all the mountings

Lol. No I don't have that mobo. That would be hilarious if I did through. I have about 3 or so from that era. The other one is an Asus board from a little before our gigabyte boards came out.

UPDATE!

Today was a busy day, had to go to the capital city Ljubljana
biggrin.gif
and there i picked up some well needed equipment

I got a work bench, some heat resistant glows for acrylic tube bending, a water level, some screwdrivers and 2 black mash trash cans
biggrin.gif

BruceB - saw this in your build and it is a ingenious idea from your side, so had to copy it... But to be honest it freaking hard to get some mesh in Slovenia, a rare commodity in dead. Had to buy these ones used, as also i could not find them in a few big stores i looked in. ( they cleaned them for me when i bought them
smile.gif
)

The other interesting thing i got to test out today is my try of making acrylic water paths ( or how ever is this called officially)

I messed around with this concept for a week or two now and now i finally got all the thing to work and its not leaking. The main problem was the glue. To kill my self i could not find a acrylic cement in Slovenia. I tried with a glue that was more paste like but that left to many air bubbles and a big mess. Some company's that work with acrylic told the that they glue the acrylic with some acid, but i did not want to try that as it is a quite aggressive acid. So i found a you tube video that you can glue acrylic with acetone, and my gosh you can
smile.gif
I also found a DIY guide to make your own acrylic cement. You have to mix acetone with small shards of acrylic and in 1 do 2 days you have your self acrylic cement. Will try to make that tomorrow as first i wanted to see if only acetone will hold the pieces water tight.

Now im running the test for cca 3 hours and all is bone dry
biggrin.gif
, will leave it running over night

As this seems to be now all good you can expect to see some of these water paths in this build
wink.gif

A small scale experiment

My awesome test setup

Used my sleeving kit box, to rest the acrylic on

And yes, there is actually water flowing there
biggrin.gif

So i have a last peace of acrylic that i will use for the build

Will also use foamed PVC to form a few barriers in the case, to hide the PSU from the side and also from the bottom, and then will drill holes for the power cables as need, so some measuring, cutting and so on...

With the PSU

Without the PSU

have to take out the 5.25 bay so i can test fit also the bottom PSU cover and to make a hole for the fan

Also sprayed the fan orange so finally to see my white and orange theme, the casing is not that well coated as i did not sand it before painting, but this was a test paint to see how they will coat as i never painted fans before

Little update,

was informed that some packages arrived at home, so i can expect the pump, rez, block and some fan grils, also i made some S7 logo stickers, will post some pictures in the evening

#25 ·
Adding just a few pictures of what arrived

A variety of fan grills, pump, rez, CPU block, S7 stickers, carbon fiber sticker, a 8cm LED fan( need to change the LED from blue to white), and orange SATA cable.

I'm very impressed how the fan turned out with the S7 logo - I like it very very much
biggrin.gif

I did some more work on disassembling the cases and so on. Also run into problems with the CPU block it is not a G1/4 threat ..... who knew. I figured all these water cooling parts are G1/4. Now ill have to make bigger threads my self, that will be fun
biggrin.gif

Will post more pic, tomorrow need to go sleep

Those are sweet. I'm liking the S7 stickers. They look great on those fans.
