Upgrade or just wait ?

Hello guys! I want to upgrade my rig,but thing is that I'm not sure what to upgrade...

My RIG is :
Asus P8Z77 V-LE
Intel 3570K (OC-ed to 4.4)
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)
1TB HDD
Corsair A70 cooling
Corsair 700 PSU Modular

I'm Playing on Full HD Resolution (1920x1080) and I just sold my old 560 GTX. Before I buy GPU,Intel HD 4000 is performing great, running full hd videos without any problem,so I Have no worries of waiting for new GPU releases or/and price drops.

So as you see I'm running on 1155 socket with OC-ed 3570k to 4.4 which is stable for last 2 years and is performing really nice.

My main thought is to wait for some time and buy Gigabyte G1 970 GTX when the price will drop a little and also I want to buy 256gb Samsung 850 Pro SSD.

So what would YOU do (upgrade/wait) in my situation? I just want to be future proofed (1,5-2 years approximately)

Hi,

I would just go ahead and upgrade. Not sure if you considered an r9 290, but compared with the 970 its a good battle when you consider price/performance. No rumored nvidia card out soon. Its not like you're running very high res, so you'll need the latest and greatest. Thumbs up for upgrading now.

Yeah,I was thinking about R9 290 also,if I will be able to buy it in range of 250-260$ (new) it will be hard choise for me

))

What about mb and cpu?

Your cpu/mobo is still very fast. It wont bottleneck your new gpu. I would get a small SSD for the OS. It'll make your system boot up faster and less loading time for gaming.

I just sold 560 gtx,so there is no point for me to buy low end gpu

I think I will just wait for 3xx series of amd

I play on 55' Full HD display which has 200hz. What will be good solution for me?

I think I will stay with this monitor for couple more years, because I bought it just last year and I guess freesync/4k or whatever it is will be expensive for the sizes I need (55-65). I'm also confused with all this hz and sync phraseology, but I know in some games I had 70+ fps ( don't know if this changes smth)

So will it be reasonable for me to buy 290/290x/970 when 3xx series come out ? ( I guess prices for prev gen will cut down?)

Freesync monitors will be 27inches for 1440 @144hz/31inch 4k@60hz
http://www.unlockpwd.com/list-of-compatible-monitors-with-amd-freesync/

The game can process 50+ on your TV but the panel only will be able yo refresh your image 1/50 times seconds 20ms/0.02secs to show the frames.

If this is a TV you can use it as your TV and buy a monitor for your PC either freesync/Adaptive-sync at 1440@144hz/1080@144/120hz or a non freesync monitor tgat shows 120hz like an overlord tempest or search a qnix monitor that can be overclocked to (+/-)120hz .the main benefit of AMD Freesync or VESA A-Sync is that the refresh rate gets updated with the fps,i.e 30fps with 30hz,60fps with 60hz,120fps with 120hz plus it doesnt have any kind of input lag that some people can see with vsync off but
Without tearing.

If you dont want a monitor maube wait for VESA standard Adaptive Sync to be available on TVs
http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/anton-shilov/vesa-adds-adaptive-sync-technology-to-displayport-standard/

The AMD line up would come to beat the 980 but really i dont.know if they cpuld release at once the GPU to compete against the true high end maxwell gpu(gm200/210)

What we know for sure that,The AMD fiji gpu will have HBM which will be a big advantage over Nvidia on AA+1440(or greater) where the games needs a lot of memory bandwidth for example with textures.

The 290 could drop in price?I dont know they could but they could just put EOL status and rename it or place a similar gpu with the new 300s series. Or just put it EOL and put a new architecture on.its place

The 970 will drop for sure once nvidia replaced the midrange gm204 with the true high end gm200/210 but there will.come.more expensive and faster gpus

If you cant for buying a new monitor or Adaptive Sync standard get a 970/980 or 290 either way each will last 2-3years without issues.

If you want to do dual gpus with the 290 go for.it but only of you upgrade your screen.to get proper usage.

If you want to try HBM on 1440 or 2160 wait for the amd fiji/bermuda gpus.

For using a 4k@60hz non freesync/A-sync then wait for amd gpus new gpus

Eh, waiting or not is entirely a personal choice. At the rate things are improving, you'd have to be rich to stay on the cutting edge... and honestly, the difference between this gen and next gen aren't eye-meltingly dramatic.

I upgraded to my 780 knowing the 900 series was dropping a few months later, no regrets. I think you'll be happy waiting for the AMD 300 series... I also think you'd be happy with a current AMD 200 or NVidia 900 series.

Yes,I understand what you're saying... Don't you think getting r9 290 tri-x will be good choise ? I mean over 970 g1 which is 100$ more?

The 970 is going to be faster, use less power and produce less heat than the 290. It's well worth the extra $100... that said, I really doubt you'd be disappointed with the 290, it's a good card.

Some have had buku issues with AMD drivers, but I never did with any of my ATi/AMD cards. The biggest problem child video card I've ever owned was an NVidia, so I don't buy this "NVidia does everything better" belief you see floating around.

why people keep saying thata. Midrange gpu consumes less than a high end?.....in.the end of its cycle both will have similar performance.

Possibly, but the AMD is still going to use more power and produce more heat, that's just how AMD cards roll.

No need to get defensive, I like both equally, I was just mentioning the GTX-970 does justify it's higher cost. It's up to him if a few more frames and less heat are worth the money for his application.

its not about benchmarks its about the fooling that nvidia does selling upper midrange for 550usd and the following for 350usd. Which should be at 350-200usd plus 28nm that should be cheaper
