Fatal1ty X99M Killer / ASUS GTX980 STRIX SLI /

Dear Community,
I am now posting this as I have been passing the last two days trying to build my first PC

32go - Ripjaws - GSKILL-F4-2800C15Q-32GRBB
Intel 5960x
Fatal1ty X99M Killer - 2011-v3 .
COSMOS S
Crucial SSD 512Go

I actually two main issue with build :

RAM
Only two slots seems to be accepted by the mobo , if I plug the four DIMMs the momo is not even booting
When I removed two of the Slots , then I can boot but the RAM is being detected as 2133MHZ ....

SLI
This mobo has 3 PCIe slots :
- 2 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 Slots (PCIE1 @ x16 mode; PCIE2 @ x16 mode)
- 1 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 Slot (PCIE3 @ x4 mode)

In SLI it is recommended in the mobo documentation to use PCIE1 and PCIE2 but when I plug both graphic cards in there only one of the card is being detected , If I used the other combination PCIE2/PCIE3 then it works but I am then unable to enable SLI ...

Please help !

thanks

2133 is the default speed, you need to enable xmp to reach your mem rated speed...

Thanks ! good starting point ..

Any idea why my grpahic cards is not detected when I am using the both 2 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 Slots (PCIE1 @ x16 mode; PCIE2 @ x16 mode)
It works fine when I use the other combo like PCIE1/PCIE3 ....

thanks

Dear All,
I was able to sort out the SLI issue ....one issue way .

I have now followed this test http://proclockers.com/reviews/memory/gskill-ripjaws-4-16gb-4x4gb-ddr4-2800mhz-memory-review?page=0%2C2

in order to configure my RAM . No matter what I do :

- The mobo will only accept 2 slots of RAM , If I plug 3 of for DDR4 dimms , the mobo wont boot ...
- I am also unable to enable XMP2.0 OC profile , as soon as I do it I end up with the same issue .

Has anyone come accross the same kind of issue with this combo of hardware .

I have to say the RAM is GSKILLS F4-2800C15Q-32GRBB , this is not present in the asrock compatibility list for this mobo .

I will really appreciated some help ...

thanks

Dear all
I was able to move forward and get things working after tweaking the UEFI DDRAM settings.
One problem remain and this is very annoying .

The noise of the GTX ASUS STRIX when I am playing ! What an horrible noise , it looks like the fans of one of the GPU is at 100% all the time and hitting 80 degres.

I think this is due to the placement of the two PCIE ports on the motherborad , both cards are really close one to the other .... I do not have a workaround at the moment for this .

Would someone have any suggestions for me on on to sort this noise issue ?

May be I should have gone for a larger mobo ...

thanks in advance for your reply

that's just the nature of sli with an uatx systemboard. with both cards running in the first and second pcie slot, there is not enough room for airflow. thus, resulting in high fan speed/temps. run a bench mark in the current 16x 16x configuration and try swapping to 16x 8x. this will tell you if you can live with the 8x performance vs the fan speed/temps. my guess is that it'd be withing 5%.

another alternative is go and build yourself a custom water cooled loop. this will get rid of gpu fan noise and will result in a much quieter pc and lower temps.
