The problem is not about the drawbacks. But the fact that Nvidia did not reveal the memory partition detail at launch or the bandwidth of the last 0.5 GB. For the performance ramifications when VRAM > 3.5 GB is accessed we cannot trust Nvidia given how they deliberately withheld this information from the public. We require the tech press to do a honest and thorough investigation. someone needs to have the guts to do a fair job with the investigation and not be afraid to step on Nvidia's toes. btw are you now not defending Nvidia (which is what you accuse others of) tongue.gif

My only stance right now is to wait and see how fast that last 0.5GB of RAM is really running at, because I'm certain it's not 20 GB/s, and if it's being utilized. I'm not going to make up my mind based on one buggy benchmark. I'd like to see more gaming results.

Nah that's not the reason. That poster just clearly is exaggerating his VRAM usage. I can play both of those games at 4k and never see above 3GB VRAM on both a 295x2 and 970.

I have to agree. It's "Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) - 224", not "Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) - 224*".

According to an Nvidia developer's guide Xbar is the "link" from smm's to L2 cache. There seems to be no discrepancy about what is and isn't - it is worded quite directly - so I think it is fair to say without Xbar, the memory bus(which is connected via L2 cache) is dislocated from the gpu which means in effect, the traces may be on the pcb, albeit unconnected. Which is why the card is not full "256 bit".

It seems my 980m 8GB does have the bug, but I'm not sure I should care a lot. If the card is not going to have an issue until I hit 7.5GB, big whoop. I don't understand why the end of the first 4GB is fine when the last 4GB has the issue. I sort of expected the issue to occur at 3.5GB and 7.5GB.

Frametimes at >3.5GB vram usage should be tested at over 60fps, because tests at low fps will give the vram more time each frame and hide the problem (if it actually exists).

So this is why I still get warnings to disable aero to save on memory with my 5760x1080 setup on a 4GB card when my games never use over 3.5GB.

This is my first Nvidia graphics, and probably my last. AMD never pulled any crap like this on me.
