sourceGL: RInput launcher + more for CS:GO/TF2 - Page 28

So for the first time since reading all this "Raw Input in CSGO = Bad Juju" stuff I've read across the interwebs.. I finally decided to turn it off and see if I could notice a difference. I can't. 3310 - Zowie EC series. Raw Input = 1 or Raw Input = 0 with no acceleration + windows fix, I can't tell, at all.. and I shouldn't in theory since both the raw data from the mouse, and windows sens should be the same with 6/11 windows and no EPP.. in theory. Alas some people swear raw input in csgo creates some kind of smoothing or SOMETHING. Whatever it is, I can't feel it and I've used raw input every hour I've put into CS:GO.. and I use Raw Input in other games that feature it such as BF3/BF4.

Am I an alien or something? I even plugged my DA2013 back in.. can't feel a difference between on or off. I've read reports(with supporting evidence) that claim m_rawinput 1 is technically the very best for precision. And then I've read other people's reports(also with supporting evidence) that cite m_rawinput 0 is "better".

I'm just going to make the decision now to leave things the fudge alone.. and keep Raw Input on.

if you dont notice it, yea just don't worry about it at all. it doesn't mean you're less sensitive to it or anything; more likely that your computer is less affected by whatever-the-hell is screwed up with csgo/windows+rawinput

Thread Starter
m_rawinput 1 is the easiest and best solution for accurate input if it doesn't feel funny to you. For some people, it feels strange due to some kind of transient smoothing/buffering effect. For these people, RInput (by means of sourceGL for ease wink.gif) is the best solution. But now with the updated and fixed RInput (thanks mainly to qsxcv), there's no real downside to defaulting to RInput over m_rawinput 1 if you are paranoid about the latter's smoothing/buffering, other than the minor inconvenience of having to inject it manually or using sourceGL to do so. The packet loss of the old RInput is gone and the new one has the same ~0% packet loss as m_rawinput 1.

For all people, I strongly believe that plain m_rawinput 0 is the worst available option because it has seemingly random, intermittent positive AND negative deviations, as I showed in the m_rawinput 0 histograms on the second page of this thread: http://www.mouse-sensitivity.com/forum/topic/342-counter-strike-global-offensive-m-rawinput-vs-rinput/

So basically, sensitivity with m_rawinput 0 will be inconsistent in a random or pseudo-random, variable way. To make matters worse, this variance is affected by the current FPS and the fps_max setting. Furthermore, I suspect there is some added input latency because mouse data packets are being mishandled and represented in the wrong frame-render when these deviations are occurring; but, I also suspect that because of how uncommon the deviations are, that the average added input latency is overall on the order of one frame or less (again, probably variable, which adds another complication). Still, the amount of inconsistency tends to be <1% with <~1 frame added input lag over a given second of mouse data, so this amount may not be detectable to most players, making m_rawinput 1 and m_rawinput 0 functionally indistinguishable for them.

The only real reasons I can think to use m_rawinput 0 are if you want to use (for whatever misguided reason) the Windows pointer speed slider and/or enhance pointed precision to affect your in-game sensitivity, or if you're just used to m_rawinput 0 because that's what you've always used and you're a creature of habit, as many pros seem to be.

I've read somewhere on this thread that csgo rawinput is different from 1.6. I had a hell of a time trying to get my aim back from switching to csgo. It just felt weird, unresponsive even with the fps cap being way higher. Using sourcegl lets me get my mojo back.

RInput.dll was updated to v1.35, which completely fixes packet loss as reported in the mouse-sensitivity.com threads (massive shoutout to qsxcv for helping me understand the RInput code and coming up with the fix).
I was able to find what I needed to make the "small update" for the new RInput, as I see this as the most important thing to be updated.

As for the "big update" that will have all the new features, I will redouble my efforts in getting it released. But getting it out in a week may be a little quicker than I am able to do. I was just overly ambitious with all the new things I wanted to include, so it's taking me a while to get all them working satisfactorily and also getting the GUI updated in a non-clunky way. Hopefully this is good for now thumb.gif
I'm optimistic enough about the Big Update to wait a couple more weeks to release the pack, I've decided smile.gif

Any hints on what's being added?

Great software! I've never messed around with RInput, but this thread inspired me to give it a whirl. I never really understood what people were talking about when they described m_rawinput 1 as "floaty". Well, now I do. It's especially noticeable when I try to suddenly halt my aim, on an opponent's head for example. With m_rawinput 1, it feels like my crosshair has extra momentum, and wants to keep drifting after I stop the mouse. With RInput, it feels like the crosshair is more tightly controlled. Awesome!

Mouse input always felt better to me with minimum graphical settings, even though my PC can easily handle max settings at upwards of 200 fps. This is still the case with RInput.

While I was screwing around with RInput, I also happened to discover that I seemingly aim a lot better at 4:3 res with black bars, as opposed to 16:9. Weird. Maybe it's a psychological thing, focusing my attention toward the center of the screen or something. Too bad, because I prefer the immersive experience of 16:9.

EDIT: I almost forgot to mention, the desktop shortcut launcher doesn't work for me. frown.gif It just launches the actual sourceGL software itself, rather than CS:GO.

Dgmul, is there anyway you can do a blind test? Or just check it again. Maybe try a different computer? I just want to make sure this isn't conformation bais

That's exactly how I feel, though I fully admit it could just be my brain playing tricks on me. And tbh, I don't really care whether it is or not.

I have taken interest in this piece of software from the start, and even with the (later proved) packet loss I could still feel it was the right way to go. It is unfortunate as most gamers out there use the game implementation which lacks in comparison, but then again it's all in the brain and they got used to it (even I did at some point), or maybe they never got to test this one and feel the difference...
That being said I'm glad people are still working on it, releasing updated and improved versions, thank you.

meanwhile i feel more accurate with p2000 than usp even though i know it isnt.

and sometimes when you use a new resolution suddenly you feel like it's easier to aim. same goes with crosshair settings and sensitivity.

and a few updates ago before m4 changes, a bunch of people thought/think m4a4 is a lot less accurate than m4a1 even though 1st bullet is only ~5% more spread and recoil pattern is identical for the 1st twenty bullets except ~10% larger on a4.
