Should I be able to run Shadow of Mordor at 2560x1440 with no issues?

So, I bought a 28" monitor and have been trying to play with max settings at 2560x1440. What happens is if I play with the game and don't turn the camera too fast, I get about 60FPS. However, when I try to turn the camera really fast, the FPS drops really low for a few seconds and the goes back to 60FPS. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm wondering if my system should be able to run this without question, or I'm seeing this because of the limitations from my system?

System specs are in my sig. I should mention that my CPU is overclocked to 4.5GHz, while the GPUs are stock.

Thanks for looking.

What type of monitor?

I had no performance issues playing at 1440p using SLI 4GB GTX 770s so I can't imagine that your SLI 970s would have a problem. It sounds like you may have a monitor with a really low response rate.

What are your frame rates like in the benchmark?

Hey Moustang. Thanks for the reply.

My monitor is a QNIX QX2710. It's a Korean brand monitor that uses a Samsung PLS panel. Now that I think about it, could it be my monitor?

I just ran the benchmark 5 times. The averages were:
AVG: 80.42
MAX: 151.14
MIN: 39.95

Sounds like a VRAM issue to me. What does a program like MSI Afterburner say about your VRAM usage when in-game?

At 1920x1200 (ultra settings), my 980 stayed pegged literally right at the 4GB limit almost the entire time. I even got bad dips a few times when I left my browser open (using a tiny bit of VRAM).

Hmm, the max memory usage was at about 3700, and that was only a fraction of the time. The rest of the time, it stayed about 3500-ish.

With that monitor overclocking is really easy. Despite what you may read you don't need to download anything to do it. Just go into your Nvidia control panel, select the Change Resolution on the left, and setup a Custom Resolution for it. Horizontal is 2650, Vertical is 1440, and set the refresh rate to 120hz. See if that helps.

And now you've got a 120hz monitor. Isn't that nice? (Even if it doesn't fix this game)

So I overclocked my monitor to 96Hz, but that didn't fix my problem.

However, I think it's memory related. I started using the EVGA PrecisionX in game to monitor memory usage. I tried using both the High and Ultra texture quality settings. When I use high, I don't seem to have the second or so hang-ups when panning the camera around Talion very fast, whereas the Ultra settings does. When monitoring the memory usage, in the ultra settings, the usage stayed around 3500MB. I also noticed that if the memory usage was below 3500, say 3485, and then went over the 3500 mark, to 3520 or so, this is when I would see my hang-ups.

Does this make sense? Has anyone else encountered this?

It's related to the GTX 970 memory issue. SoM uses about 3.8GB for ultra textures when I have tested at 4k and a little bit less on a 2560x1080 test.
