We've been gettign a MASSIVE amount of feedback from you all - good work everyone.
We've listened to the good (thanks!) and the bad (thank you as well - we need to hear those things). So, with your feedback, we will be issuing a Patch.
Apparently there will be another patch, v1.2.1 one appears to be a quick/temp fix.
Quote:
KNOWN ISSUES WE ARE WORKING ON:
• performance issues of systems based on the AMD processor
• freezes when using Nvidia DoF
• unsatisfactory performance on multi-GPU systems
With the recent patch (1.2.1) on Steam we blocked cheating to make sure the game's PvP system (Be The Zombie) would not be abused. This, however, had the side-effect of hindering mod-makers from making changes to the game.
Creating obstacles for modders has never been our intention, and we are sorry for the inconvenience. We are now working on a quick patch that will re-enable common tweaks while stopping cheating in the game's multiplayer mode.
At Techland, we have always supported the mod community, and loved seeing how our own game can be changed by the players. A big part of the original Dead Island's success was the passion and creativity of mod-makers from our community. We want the same for Dying Light. For quite some time, we have been working, and still are, on giving modders all the power we can. We will keep you updated!
Not sure what planet you're from but thats been PC gaming since forever. People are way to whiney. This is a good game with some MINOR issues that are being worked on less than a week after launch. Thats a score imo.
tbh I have been really enjoying this game, only a couple hours in so long way to go.
I don't remember buying a game that doesn't have issues at release. what matters to me is developers patching and fixing these issues asap, if they can do this then the game is still worth it and very enjoyable.
if this bothers you wait a couple weeks after release before buying games and if they get fixed make the investment, if they don't then the developers are crap and not worth your money.
Finished the game last night, the main quests are a tad bit too short but as long as you go out and do other stuff its not too big of an issue.
My biggest complaint is aving my game invaded every 10 seconds @ night. It got so bad I had to disable the feature.
Gotta love how back in the 90s games where to an extent more complex and dare I say it. WAY FUNNER. Dungeon keeper, dues ex, settlers 2. Not a single patch ever came out for them to fix any broken gameplay.
Now days im embareesed to play games that are over hyped only to find out they are boring and just so so broken. (every ubisoft game) in fact almost every game made
I'm only about 5 hours in but I'm enjoying the game very much. I can max everything out, but need to have the distance turning down...this seems to be due to poor CPU optimization. I'm glad that's being addressed.
Having said that, the game IS NOT BROKEN. Don't get upset because you're not maxing the game out right now. This is not like ACU at launch where the frame rate drops to unplayable levels despite lowering the settings. Peoples faces aren't morphing. Zombies aren't walking through builders. I can't say that I've encountered a single glitch yet. It works, you just might have to drop your epen down a bit and playing it with some settings turned down.
I should also mention that I've had no problem connecting to other players and playing the various online modes.

So someone really screwed up... but it's been noted on other sites that the same engine in other games does support multi-core just fine. They addressed the issue and will fix it. How long that actually takes is anyone's guess, but they just got a whole lot of development money back so they won't be hurting for resources. I'm fine with it. I'm just not going to play it until it's patched.
They're improving the performance for a setting that they didn't have to put there in the first place.
Sure, the game only utilizes 1-2 CPU cores, however, they're also letting you push that view distance as far up as possible.
Also, I'm sure we can assume that more of the quality control is focused on your typical PC's performance/experience than somebody with an enthusiast level GPU that gives them enough head room to find the CPU bottleneck.
As long as you have a sense of perspective, it is EASY to see that this game is not broken.
Also, PC gaming has always suffered from issues like this (and the other recent releases). Literally always. Should it be that way? Absolutely not, but what do you expect going to a Nicholas Cage movie when you dislike Nicholas Cage?
This! I was trying to remember the last time I loaded a game from CD/DVD and it actually worked without downloading patches. Orange box? Leisure Suit Larry 1? Descent 1? I don't do pre-orders or day one purchases, its just painful playing an incomplete product and by the time time its patched its probably discounted. (but I guess I would break that principal for HL 3 or Portal 3)

It is the view distance that is the most broken...
