It will still do fine as long you don't need more than 3.5gb of vram.

I personally would have went with a 290 + at that res, but a 970 is not a bad choice either:

Why would you even say that? You're more than fine, 970 can drive 1440p no problem, albeit not with 8xMSAA....rolleyes.gif....the 27" 1440p has enough PPI that no AA is needed anyway....

Base your decision on the way the card performs, not the way it looks! And at BF4 the 3GB on my SLI 780TIs is enough for 1440p.

I was considering the 290 but the lower temps and quieter design leaned me towards the 970. If I encounter any issues I will probably ask for refund or trade for 290.
I also read somewhere that users are being given the option to take 20% refund or full refund..soo...

I had a bittersweet feeling when I clicked 'order'. Purchasing something that's not as advertised but still widely regarded as 'good'.

The 970 is no slouch and is a good card. Really do not think it is a bad buy.

27" 1440p has enough PPI that no AA is needed anyway....

1080p @ 22" = ~100ppi

1440p @ 27" = ~109ppi

4k @ 22" = 200ppi

you really do need AA/downsampling on anything close to 100ppi at 2-3 feet. 1440p is ~78% higher resolution, yea, but the screen is way bigger so overall PPI is very similar.

You can mitigate the need for AA by putting the screen substantially further away so that it's harder to see individual pixels - but that won't resolve stairstepping or flickering of temporal aliasing, which is probably the most distracting and "i need AA" thing out there

Your games should run fine. Sure I'm at 1080p, but I haven't run into that 3.5 GB issue at all except when running 130+ AI on ArmA 3 at Absolutely Maximum settings (above the Ultra preset expcet with distance @ ~2500m). With 1080p, having <120 AI on a VR map, I was hitting 60+ FPS, and running about 20 AI on Altis kept me above 60 FPS as well. Also to mention, they may be releasing an updateto fix that problem.

If you don't know what the problem is:

In the firmware, according to JayzTwoCents and Barnacules Nergasm, for some reason Nvidia made it so 3500 MB is reserved as High-priority VRAM, and 500 MB is reserved as low priority VRAM. What ends up happening is that the software tries going above 3500 MB essentially combining two completely separate partitions and runs like crap because the two partitions of VRAM can't talk to eachother. The fix is hopefully to prevent that from happening by forcing a driver update that only allows the 3500 MB partition to be used.
