I agree with this.

upgrade to a gently used 3770k, overclock it and wait it out for mainstream DDR4 system, skylake. We will hopefully see significant improvements with that platform. I personally can't justify 2011-3 system right now with DDR4 ram prices.

On premiere could be improved the performance with an hexa core

Then yes it is worth it

But what gpu do you use for 1080?

Lol. The 970, as far as Ultra / Max settings go, runs every game amazing with really no performance drops (so far) below 60 FPS, which still on a 144hz monitor is weird.

Even Assetto Corsa which is a new, and might I say beautiful racing simulator by Kunos. With only me on the course, maximum settings (Includes fully high resolution rendered mirrors that render nearly full distance and reflect smoke particles as well!), I always see above 144 FPS on almost every course in first person mode. The replay views are sometimes laggy, but never drop below 60 FPS. It surely changes when you get more than 3 AI and yourself on there, which it then requires more CPU power than anything to calculate the physics.

Otherwise, Train Simulator 2015 at Max with FXAA, not MXAA 3 x 2 (which looks amazing by the way), Batman: Arkham Origins, DayZ Mod, ArmA 2, ArmA 3, etc. run great.

I'd just go with the 3770K then. A lot of i5 users from different generations are having this itch to go big with x99 but if you've already waited this long I can assume Skylake won't be hard to wait for either with probably something more worthwhile for the money.

Personally if you don't make money back on the difference in rendering times with the 5820k (putting hobbyist gains aside, and the fact it's a cool platform out of the window here) then it's just money spent. A 3770k would serve you better and have it OCed pretty decently.

Also might want to fill out a sig rig as well for your signature biggrin.gif

Lol I'll be sure to do that. Looks like I'm going for a 3770k. Sure the purchase isn't for another month or so (it's only $300 so I don't have to wait until April or whatever, lol) but I think, unless something happens, this is my choice ^_^.

Thanks for everyone's help so far. I am keeping this thread open in case anything happens. thumb.gif

I've thought about delidding my i5, but I decided it was not worth it, especially with my low income for leisurely items, lol. Newegg is doing a sale on refurbished 3770s for $299.99, but it's not the K, so no overclocking thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

Amazon, sold by "RightNow168?" hmmm not sure, lol: 3770K

There are some sold for $249.99 at Microcenter in Queens!: 3770K

Man, this just sounds better and better the more I look.

Don't forget you can turn around and recover around half the price of the 3770 from selling the 3570k smile.gif

Precisely! Lol. I actually also have a water cooled GTX 770 to sell:
GTX 770 (Click to show)

Also, the difference a 3770k would make would definitely help with ArmA 3 in terms of AI calculation: Ai Entities (Click to show)
0 AI @ 144 FPS (top) versus 125 AI @ 73 FPS (bottom):

Sorry for digging this up, but I wanted to say that after 2.5 years, I'm still where I was at before, except I am considering a 6800k upgrade (but maybe 1700x since Intel has been losing their **** lately).

Currently at 4.8Ghz and still running pretty strong. Pretty impressed with the 720p@60 (3500 Bitrate) performance with the overclock, but games like GTA V suffer. I decided to try my 970's NVEC encoding and 1080p @ 30 (10,000 Bitrate!) works well with GTA V. Very little performance drops (I am running a 144hz monitor and it's not dropping below 60 FPS, but still annoying a bit) and looks GREAT on YouTube considering their crappy encoding.
