What's the word on the Z97-WS? - Page 2

3 week in update: all is well so far.
Still haven't bothered overclocking any beyond letting it turbo on more cores than Intel intended I think.

SpeedFan had an issue with controlling one fan on 4.50 but after a bug report 4.51 seems to have fixed that.
Temp readings are not as consistant from software to software as my previous 990FX Sabertooth was, core temps
are but everything else is a little odd at times. HWinfo64 shows more temps than the Asus software does, and I can't
match up some in SpeedFan to either. Kinda odd but not the end of the world. Ordered a thermal probe to use on the GPU
and tie it to the fan under the card but really haven't had any problems overall.

Pretty anticlimactic coming from a 9590 to be honest. I'm sure the i7 will hang on longer as "enough".

I never go above 80*c and Im overclocked to 4.8 stable with a little extra voltage than needed.

have you messed with any of the other features yet?

Try Prime95, apparently the CPU has problems with it, pretty well documented online after I went looking.

The default "auto" CPU settings on the z97-ws gave it a fair bit more voltage and allowed all cores to do full turbo speed under load, adaptive voltage or some such, that under certain types of stress like P95 apparently gives enough voltage to run pretty warm. I hit almost 100C in a cool ambient with an NH-D15 lol. Some tweaking got it down to something reasonable but i was not impressed with having to do so.

Haven't bothered overclocking beyond multicore turbo, no need to yet.

Just picked his board up on the Egg. Will run it in my Watercooled Caselabs Mercury S8. Wish me luck :D

I like the 2x 8 pins to power the board, wish my Deluxe had that..... my Z97 Classified does too but it lacks the 2x USB3 on board plugs which I need.

Makes me think I should return the Deluxe for the WS.

Couple small snags.

My D15 hangs over the 1st pcie, so I used the second, and it'll only do x8. Moved over another and have x16 now.
Not a big deal really but I'm picky, gonna take a smaller cooler if I ever go back to dual GPU's.

This board seems to have decided that auto/stock CPU settings involved setting turbo to 4.4 on all four cores and being a bit
liberal with the voltage. It was running HOT as hell, especially with prime 95 that I have since learned appears to kick haswells
ass for some reason. I deciphered the 8.2 million freakin settings in the bios and got the cpu and power stuff sorted to stock levels
and it's better, can still see 76c core with other stress testers in a 24c room. And I thought the 9590 ran hot, sheesh...

AI Suite 3 has some really neat features, sure wish it was less buggy.
The fan control is neat in that it tests the fans and is so well optioned, I still get some weird
up and down sometimes but I'm tweaking the speed curve.
I'll eventually get speedfan going on here assuming it's compatible, it's rock solid just a bear to set up.

No problems otherwise so far, saw some weirdness in the even log but I suspect it's Asus software glitch.

I'd like to apologize to the sensitive user that flagged my post from February for using an acronym for the fecal material of the male cow.
I also notice I spelled "compatible" wrong and corrected that.
