home office build for gf

Hi all,

I am building a PC for my girlfriend to use when working from home. She will likely want to use remote desktop, no gaming probably watch some netflix/youtube from time to time. I am not up on the new hardware so am looking for some suggestions; I just threw together the following parts in a few minutes on a "oh that looks nice/I want it-basis" and without too much attention to price. The case is about the only thing I am set on since she has already approved it (and I want to get my hands on one!). My main requirement is that it be FAST. She will likely have a 27"ish monitor and we will want the option of running two but I'm not up on the integrated graphics options. Also need help picking out a wireless network adapter--any suggestions?

All thoughts and comments welcome!

Dont buy a Corsair RM you can get much better for the same money or less.
Why you might not want to buy a Corsair RM PSU

You dont even need 450 watts for that system if you are not going to have a video card in it.
Even 300 watts could power that system.

Now if you want something really small, here's one from another thread. But the case is around $180. But you could drop the SSD dwon to the 240gb one to knock off $80 bucks...

Thanks for those suggestions--based on the last two posts it sounds like dual core plus video card is the way to go over a quad core with integrated graphics.

My main concern is the CPU/mobo combo being fast enough to handle whatever she throws at it--that, plus the idea of integrated graphics is a real unknown for.

Again, thank you all for the info and suggestions-- ++rep

If I had to do it right now, I think I'd honestly go for a I5 4690k with that MB and drop the graphics card. You could add one later if need be, and use the on board "OC gene" if more speed is needed. Just remember that the on board video has only one of each of a HDMI, DVI and Displayport, when buying your monitor/s...

A nice enterprise quality office workstation:

CPU/iGPU: E3-1226 V3: ~$220
MOBO: ASRock Rack C226M WS: ~$180
RAM: 2x8GB Crucial/Kingston/Samsung ECC DDR3 1.35V 1600-11-11-11 UDIMMs ~$160
SSD: Sandisk X110 256GB ~$90
Storage: ST1000NM0033 or WD1002F9YZ ~$90
PSU: Seasonic G 360W ~$60
Case: CM N200: ~$50

~$850

Switch to the E3-1246 V3 if you want a bit more umph from the CPU (hyperthreading), or go E3-1231V3 + Quadro K420 if you want hyperthreading + dGPU.
