Advice on new future build

Hello all, I'm considering building a new gaming rig, perhaps in near future. My last build was some 6 years ago, after that I went to a gaming laptop. Now I'm going back to desktop gaming.
I would appreciate any advice on components I picked. Budget around $2000, preferred Intel/ Nvidia/ EVGA
Only things I have to reuse is 128gb Samsung 850pro (for OS) and my old LG monitor will have to do for now.

1000 watts is way overkill unless you are going to have 3x video cards, 550 watts is enough for that system as it is.

And if its just for gaming and nothing else you dont really need 16 GB of RAM or a 4790K.

#3 ·
What resolution are you going ro use?
What applications(other than gaming)do you use ?
What games do you play?
Why You dont hold for new amd gpus with HBM?they will beat nvidia gpu on high res
Or you could get 2x 290 which easily beat a 980

With 1800usd you can get an x99 plataform

The 1000W PSU is for proofing future upgrades (like SLI, watercooling maybe) the price difference is not that much anyway. As is the 4790k, even tho probably not necessary. 16gb of ram is nice when running background programs while gaming, I might go with 2x4gb if the price difference justify it.
For now I would use the old LG monitor(1680x1050) but a nice Samsung 4k would be the next purchase. The most demanding game I play is BF4, GTA5 soon. I don't use any graphics software, so its a strictly gaming rig.
Prefer NVIDIA simply because that's all I ever had in all my comps, even tho I see a lot of complaints about the new cards.
I was thinking of waiting for the presidents day sales to see if any major price drops, even better if I can wait for the black Friday/cyber Monday (but that's long ways to go)

You are not going to need 1000 watts even with 2x video cards and water cooling, in this case you are better off using your money on better quality instead of wattage you dont need anyway.
The EVGA SuperNova G2 750 watts is a better PSU and it costs almost the same as the 1000 watts Rosewill Capstone.

You will not need 1000W even for 2 gtx 980 graphics card if you are hard set on nvidia graphics cards. complaints are mostly with 970 and the vram "issue" not really an issue, just a crappy design really.
2 gtx 980 can be run off of a quality 700W power supply without issue. I let shilka take it from there for power supplies

this build is a little less cost and whips the butt of the one you posted in a few areas:

two way SLI is the only option on either of these motherboards and the only cards that require more than 750 are a pair of overclocked 290/290X, 780ti/Titan Black. the 980 could run on a 500w in crosffire if 500 watt power supplys were design for multi card setups. the wattage excess means nothing and isn't a security blanket. this build only consumes around 460 watts at load and that's with two 970's. cpu cooler is much better at keeping up with that (every) cpu. for the same cost improve load times and minim,um fps with faster ram. one could always use more hard drive space (long as the drive is reliable) and two 970's for the price of a 980 is win any day.

^ I like it except for the Asus mobo, this is because their customer support is terrible. I own G75VX which has served me really well, so I didn't have much contact with Asus, except in the beginning with some minor issues that was a pain. You are right about the ram that is a much better option, and Gskill is up to par on quality.
The case I posted looks like a great option for air cooling, and I never heard of Phanteks before! not that those are big obstacles to overcome.
Most importantly you say that 2x970 will out perform the 980 ACX 2.0 ? The price being the same I will probably go that route.

Thank you all for the recommendations! I'm still thinking it over, waiting a while longer is probably my best option, to either save on current GPUs or get the next gen.

Toss out that old junky monitor and play on a nice 1440p.

can't argue there. I no longer buy Asus products either, but I'll recommend them to othewrs if it's the best available option or a good value option (not super common lol).

yea, and at no extra cost it makes sense.

they're primarily a cooling company, but they've entered the chassis market two years ago and have some very good options, a couple of which represent the best chassis option at their price point. the Enthoo Pro is one of them as far as small/budget full towers goes. good for air cooling and decent water cooling support too. it's not perfect, but it is heavily lauded by most people who know of it and for good reason.

of course. the 970 is ~20% slower than the 980 and both oc the same. two 970's is far out of the 980's reach. this is the case with flagship gpus, they are almost never a good value proposition. they're just priced high because they are marginally faster than everything else.

you're welcome. I'd say since you want this to last that long. go with some high end gpus, maybe even start with a single high end gpu and go X99 chipset and a 6 core i7 as it's possible to get that for about $70 more than this cpu/mobo/ram cost. then you could add a second gpu later.

Ok guys I really thought I could wait for the new gpu's to come out but I'm too impatient, and there are no concrete announcements as to when that will be.

I revised the the parts list based on some of your suggestions. What do you think?
btw. the monitor is there as place holder I will probably wait for the new Acer model.

this is over $500 more than the original build you posted (when the place holder monitor is added to both lists) and gaming performance is the same. you can get double the drive capacity without functional or quality sacrifices for $350-$410 less than this last list. check these out:
