For pc users, memory and vrms on gpu waterblocks is the only place you'd use these. You do so because you want the metal to metal contact on the die, (with paste to fill cracks,) and using metal to metal contact elsewhere might prevent good contact on the die since there's going to be engineering tolerances and variance. If a vram chip were a fraction of a millimeter too high, it could prevent the block from seating properly on the die.

Aquacomputer though on some of their blocks use paste for memory as well as core die. That's their way of saying "we're germans, we do engineering better."

Pads are never going to be better than paste no matter what the heat transfer rating since paste is not used to create a solid layer but rather just to fill gaps in metal to metal contact.

The stock pads that come with gpu blocks are usually rated around 5-8 w/mK. The fujipoly ultra extreme and sarcon xr-m are rated 17w/mK, and users report significant drops in vrm temps when they are used. Roboyto has a good thread on this. Other experts like tsm106 state that they are a luxury applicable mainly in benching as the stock pads will give you perfectly acceptable temps.

Tsm106 is probably rigjt, at +100mv I'm maxing at 60c vrms at 27c ambient in heat stress testing. If you had that temp on air you'd be thrilled and there's no need to go lower. I just want to though biggrin.gif. It's only $15 to upgrade the VRM pads.

So here's how the Sarcon GR-m High Extreme (the 17w/mK) looks, don't have FUE to compare it to

That looks just like the FUE I have. Same color and patterns on each side of the protective cover. One side just falls off and the other takes a little work.

I am glad there is a source, contacting both fujipoly and mod right were dead ends even after trying to open a corporate account through my eight hospitals and that is a lot of computers.

@taem - This. I got Fujipoly XR-m from PPCs, and it looks exactly like in the pictures above.

Good to hear they are superficially identical, hopefully performance is as well.

Which is the side that peels off easier? The larger pattern or the smaller rectangles? I find those plastic skins so hard to remove. Totally mangled some of the precut vram pads on my Heatkiller. Want to put minimum stress on the pads this time.

The finer/smaller pattern is thinner and comes off very easily. The coarser/large pattern comes off just fine too but is might help if you leave this side on while you place the pad and then use an exacto blade to lift it off when you are ready.

Temps didn't improve very much.

Valley loop at ambient 25c

I mean it's pretty good; D5 vario pump set to 2 and fans spinning at 600rpm, so system is in silent mode. (XT45 420 + XT45 280 rads) But it isn't much of an improvement on what I was getting with the Heatkiller stock pads. A few degrees. Still, with folks reporting 20c improvements, it's disappointing. I suppose though that those folks reporting massive temp drops were getting much higher vrm temps than I was on the Heatkiller 290x, which has very good vrm cooling to begin with, so I don't think I had much room for improvement.

For $7.50 it was a worthwhile experiement.

Correct, it very much depends on where you start. If the heatkiller pads are 11.0W/mK then it isn't likely that you will see a lot of difference.

This is a waste if you are not running lots of voltage and benching. These pads have been way overhyped by some posters.

Hype or not, ocd.net users will pay a premium for a few extra bench points. In the end, for some the difference is worth the cost. Mostly it is related to knowing that the best possible was just obtained.
