If anything the artistic style is very pleasant on the eyes. Even the lighting in that game was fantastic and that was one of the first iterations of frostbite.

I just played through Crysis and Warhead a couple of days ago and I just can't get over how freaking good it still looks. I haven't played 3 yet. EA is testing my patience but I'm starting to believe that Crysis 3 will never make it to Steam.

I prefer Crysis to Crysis 2 in terms of graphics (well actually in terms of almost everything). Crysis 2 graphics look a bit more "cartoony" to me than Crysis graphics. It does that thing a bunch of other games do (Starcraft 2 extremely guilty of this) of making everything look like it glows with a bit of fog or whatever.

Crysis will probably be the King of time-adjusted graphics quality for the rest of time. Before that, PC-wise it might have been something like Quake 3 or one of the first properly 3D games but I'm too young to have sampled enough games and remembered them.

I liek the way Neverwinter Online looks at full settings, its actually pretty nice looking. Textures could use an increase though at this point.

he's not worth it, I figured it out some time ago....
back to the discussion, AC4BF is still the very best for me. Those jungle locations, shantytowns, open sea... just miraculous (I had to consult a thesaurus to find a suitable word smile.gif ) Nobody metntioned it earlier but... Dying Light looks fantastic to me. If it wasn't for those awful fps drops it would be a serious contender ...

Crysis 3 has better character models, better parallax mapping, but worse overall texture quality and greatly inferior anti-aliasing. Crysis 3 also has stupidly overdone lighting with its giant sun and fake-looking overpowering sunshafts.

After these two games, the runner up is probably Crysis 2 but I'm just guessing, basing it off screenshots, since I never played it with the DX11 updates. Then comes Metro Redux, unless you can run Dragon Age: Inquisition at 4k or larger - in this case DA:I wins since it's only real problem is aliasing at sub 4k (take a look). The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is also on this level, although the lighting system and post processing holds it back a bit, but at 1080p it arguably looks better than DA:I just due to the aliasing DA:I suffers from.

These games are all a step ahead of everything else in terms of technical graphics. The polygon count, object detail, the 3D mapping, the tessellation, the view distance, everything looks very realistic. Unlike Crysis which has a lot of relatively fake looking rocks, mountains, and objects, but what do you expect from a nearly 8 year old game? Crysis along with Crysis Warhead are still in the top 10 though, along with the other games I mentioned as well as Thief and modded Skyrim. Then again I haven't played AC Unity, and the next Batman game is sure to make its way into the top 10.

The AC Unity pics posted above aren't anywhere near the other games I mentioned in terms of visual quality. My goodness... the aliasing is painful. Do you run any anti-aliasing? The rooftop texture sucks, interior lighting doesn't stand out, what looks great about it? It actually looks dated and mediocre.

Yes...

Put my vote in for Metro:LL

I'll never forgot the first time I played that game and came out of the manhole and into the swamp. I was running ti maxed at 1440 and my jaw pretty much hit the floor...

The weather effects, lighting, sound design, etc - it all just came together in that one area for me.

Idk i cant really say Crysis 3 looks all the great a lot of the textures are really bad but in some parts are good but others are just bad Id have to go with the original Crysis or the metro series :)

Dragon Age:Inquisition is beautiful. There are tons of atmospheric areas.

I love the level designs also, especially from a gameplay point of view. This game is so new and different, I think it's largely misunderstood. There are so many ways to change the gameplay, an abundance of things to interact with, and lots of personality. Some of the characters really come to life if you let them. I think it's a genius game. Years from now DA:I will be regarded as one of the great classics.
