Also, what are good IPS curved monitors for this? Freesync? 120hz/144hz? Anyone coming out with OLED? Or all of it in one?! That would be a dream.

Displayport is fine for up to 75Hz on the Acer XR341CK (freesync version). G-sync version might use HDMI but specs at 100Hz at that rez whatever the connection.

Someone - AOC?? - just announced a 3440x1440x144Hz panel at CES this year - saw it in another thread in the Industry news HW section; don't recall who off top of my head. All existing on-the-market monitors out there at this rez as of today however are 100Hz or below (most of them 60Hz fixed, even though many use the same exact source panel, some are just overclocking them). The Acer Predator Z35 is 35", curved, has a lower rez than 3440x1440 but it does do 144Hz according to specs. Not sure it's really hit the street in quantity yet.

It also has a 75Hz refresh rate. There were so many announcement at CES and afterwards its hard for me to keep up. I made a incomplete list of all the 3440x1440 monitors. I need to add some newly announced monitors though.

Not quite true - remember the Samsung curved 3440x1440's are VA panels. Dell, Acer, Asus, LG...all use the LG IPS panels (and mostly the very same one). Acer has announced an XR342CK that will also be Freesync, still 75Hz limited I think, but with twice the curvature of the XR341CK (like 1800mm radius vs. 3800mm)

TFT central is a great place to help you make your choice; they always know what panel is in what monitor in their reviews. Disclaimer (if you haven't seen my other posts) I do have the Acer XR341CK (Freesync version). I'm very happy despite occasional issues that I think are more the AMD drivers than the monitor.

Does the Dell U3415W have the same amount of curve as the LG 34UC97 ? Can't seem to find anything related to that, but I guess so since its probably the same panel?

It does, all the displays based on the LG panel (so far) are 3800R

Just tried the Acer XZ350CU. A VA panel, very curved, 144Hz and Feesync. I've been using IPS monitors since 2005, all at 1200x1600 or 1200x1920. My last monitor was an Asus ProArt IPS 24". I don't' do much photography anymore and decided to focus on gaming performance and immersion, hence the 35" widescreen.

Unfortunately I lost the Acer lottery. The monitor worked off and on for about 2 hours until it failed into continuous reset. Never got a chance to play games. Watched some vids and browsed some web. Overall, I'm content with the reduced DPI, it's perfectly readable and text is smooth enough to not cause distraction. The VA panel does gamma shift at the edges, but not enough to be a factor in most conditions (only all black that I noticed). Unlike some of the reviews, the gamma does shift quite a bit unless you are centered on the screen, and even then the extreme edges aren't perfect. I found it acceptable, others may not.

I performed the contrast measurements at http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ and in the center this monitor is over 3 times the contrast ratio as my Asus ProArt.

The curve is very noticeable, regardless of your position to the screen. I am ok with it, as video and images look great with the curve. But if you are OCD and need straight lines on your web pages and taskbar, this is not the monitor for you!

I'd really like to keep this monitor, but unless I can get free shipping for a replacement I will wait for another. $100 in lost shipping and hours wasted setting up and repackaging a defective monitor will make a man bitter towards any manufacturer.

I did contact Acer online support and they were abysmal. As a victim of their bad QC, I would have expected them to show me the white glove treatment and exchange my monitor at no cost. But instead their excuse was "you didn't buy it directly from us so we're not responsible for return shipping.". Really? Since when does Acer sell directly to consumers? Pathetic excuse. The very least I would have expected them to assure me that the authorized reseller I bought it from would reimburse me for my troubles. I will contact them tomorrow during business hours and hope for a better response.

However, it looks like I just lost $100 in shipping fees for a defective product. Thanks Acer!!!

I will not be one to dissuade others from buying Acer products based on my single experience, but all I can say is be wary. Buy from a shop that will guarantee a no-cost replacement. Or buy from a local shop to avoid shipping fees that no one wants to reimburse.

I generally like to buy monitors in-person or from a company who is known for decent support. I got the Dell because it was first to market sort of, and my first panel was defective... they shipped out a replacement and it's been perfect. Sure typical IPS problems, but nothing bothersome to me.

Sorry to hear you got a bad one and the company is trying to screw you. That really sucks.
