another 7990, or go with 295x2?? - Page 3

Sell the 7990, lets say as someone posted above you get $280, thats $370 for effectively 2 290x's thats a good deal and wont involve 4 way crossfire, produce as much heat, will be a significant increase in performance, will support freesync ect...

GPUBoss even agrees that the 7990 is not on par with the r9 290x thanks to the faster memory on the r9 290x and better clock speeds. I have an r9 290x myself and can attest that its an extremely fast card.

No that is not correct whatsoever. A 290 (non-x) is about 22-24% faster than a 7970, and 20-30% slower than 2 7970s (aka 7990).

2month later yep :

effectively Dt_Freak1 you can't say "a 290nonX beat or have almost same performance than a 7990/CFX7970/CFX280X" ....it's just totaly false, it's like you say a CFX280X have almost same performance than a 290nonX it's just impossible a CFX280X is like 20% better than one R9 290X ....and 7970 vs 280X its totally same cards, just renamed wink.gif

and what i understood for the op his question is : i should have 2x 7990 or a 295x2 ....personaly i think 2x7990 destroy a 295x2 or has similar performance, after this maybe he can get a CFX290nonX for a less price than a 295x2 with same performance but with like ~200$ less i guess

i post here too for know a comparison betwen a CFX7990(yep 2x 7990 cards) and a 295x2, i guess performance will be similar or better for the CFX7990 but for how much, i didnt found any test for the moment so if you find one let me know here plz smile.gif

if you have to choose betwen

some console ports will require more than 3GB vram at downsampling or running 2560x1440+ there having 2x 7990 would have worse performance than a 295X2

Thread Starter
so an update. i ended up getting the 295x2. i went with this because in the end, it was 600 bux and for a card that is top of the line at that price is amazing. thanks everyone for your insightful remarks.
