Let me begin by saying that the game is great and I'm having a blast playing it. I have 50 hrs put into the game and I'm only at 29%. I completed almost 50 side ops and 21 main story missions and I'm not even starting to get bored of the game, well, after all, the MGS games are my favourites. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut that doesn't mean the game is perfect at all, in fact I don't think it will please most people.

I love stealth games and that's why it never gets old for me, but the truth of the matter is there's not a lot of variation into the missions; it's all about rescuing/killing guys, destroying something (a vehicle or something else) and that's pretty much it. I love the formula but I know it's not for everyone. The game has a major flaw; the helicopter sequences. Every time you want to go from point A to point B on the MAP or when you want to change platform in motherbase you need to: Call the chopper, wait 30s until it arrives and then wait another 30s until it gets to the destination. You keep doing that over, and over, and over, and over, and over, AND OVER again. It wasn't difficult enough for Kojima to allow the player to skip the sequences, wasn't it? Another thing I'm going to complain about, is almost the lack of cutscenes. MGS is supposed to be a story driven game, and having to rely on cassette tapes all the time for the back story is a drawback for me. I didn't want something like MGS 4 either; something in between, you know. But here, the cutscenes are non existent, making the story becomes something secondary )at least thats the feeling I'm having right now).

I'm really enjoying the game, a lot to be honest. But make sure you like stealth games, otherwise it may become a bit repetitive for you.

Hit escape when in free roam or having completed an objective, there is an option to return to the ACC without calling the copter/waiting/wasting GMP. Also this is not a story spoiler but still:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Develop the carboard box, go to an outpost and collect the invoice from the delivery point. Do so for all the outposts and you can then use the box to quick travel to any outpost that has delivery service in the map when the enemy is not on alert.

If the game is 100 hours and can be beaten in 35 hours, then that means the other 65 hours have near-meaningless content, like those tapes, or resources, or plants, or whatever else that is not even necessary to beat the game. What's the point of upgrading mother-base so much if all you need is: a basic assault rifle, a basic sniper rifle, a grenade launcher (or bazooka-type weapon), a pistol with a silencer, several types of grenades, supply drops with ammo, and a horse to obliterate ANY base to Kingdom Come RAMBO STYLE!

All in all - it IS a great game, but it is simply NOT what I expected and wanted from it. Its a problem of not meeting expectations... I thought there would be at least 5 or 6 different locations with DIFFERENT graphics to show off the engine and what the game can do. I thought that mission objectives would differ and stealth would be nearly-required or else fire-power approach would be incredible hard (instead of being the EASIEST way to beat the mission). When it comes to Stealth - its exactly like Watch Dogs, where hacking before or during a battle was just cool thing to do, not necessary at all!

Here's how I know this game was not about Stealth, but about being RAMBO - I silently take down enemies on outskirts of camps because nobody notices those either being killed from a far or in hand-to-hand combat That usually makes up 20-26% of all enemies. Then I proceed to use a grenade launcher or bazooka-type weapon to destroy ALL enemy vehicles, tanks, stationary guns, whatever other artillery, those mini-cannon mortars that enemies eagerly use to blow you up. That kills a few enemies too. Now that baddies can't even touch me because I select awesome locations to snipe from, they can't do SQUAT - they got no more mini-cannons to get me with, they can't aim at all, they usually canot reach me because I end up far away. All they can do is DIE while I snipe them. I do all that without innocents or prisoners dying. HA! Splinter Cell is stealthier than this game.

P.S. I am bipolar and on meds that help drastically from severe mood fluctuations, but they still happen.., so maybe its just how I feel last 2 days - I don't know anymore. It would be mean to crack jokes about this though...

You can Rambo the MGS games, you can use stealth, or a mix. I've done all of those in the past, but felt a greater sense of accomplishment when I used stealth. Maybe this one plays differently in those aspects, I haven't played this one yet so I can't say.
The MGS games have been rather short though in the past, but with replayability on how you play through the game. For example, on a second play through you could attempt using minimal weapons period, relying mainly on camo and choking enemies out.
But, play through times tend to be short in terms of actual story based playing.
Not trying to be critical, but you really should have played some of the other games first, it would have given you a much better idea of the overall gameplay.

For me, the idea of playing a game is being challenged when trying to actually BEAT IT, not just enjoying running around killing re-spawning soldiers. Normally, when someone wants to beat a game, they use the most efficient methods. In this game, the most efficient method is RAMBO style. If this game was good, that would not be the case. If this game was really thought-through, then you would be absolutely REQUIRED to be stealthy or else you would easily die.

Where are the promised LONG cut-scenes?
There were several during prologue and now I am on Mission 8 and there was but ONE other cut scene with XOF! SERIOUSLY? I expected it to be like in Witcher 3 - a ton of awesome content cut scenes. All I do know is run around the desert, doing same stuff over and over and over again without ANY story advancements with something cool going on! DAMN I wasted money on this!

Most efficient is Rambo Style? No it isnt. You're just bad at stealth.

So its like every other game then?

Mission 8 lol so you're still doing tutorials pretty much.

Rambo style is easy S if you can avoid getting hit and all headshots.

Your definition of beating a game is doing it efficiently but sounds like it translates to the quickest possible. During the loading screens, it'll tell you to play using stealth for a challenge. Also to add more challenge, you can play without "reflex mode". Plus you get a higher score and rank when playing stealth. The thing with MGSV is that the developers made it so you could choose any way to play the game. It's that open. They wanted to give players a choice. But you chose to do frontal assaults or sniping instead of playing stealth because you want to beat the game.

You're probably scratching your head. Who's Ocelot? Who's Kaz? Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Probably the mission where you had to rescue Kaz didn't mean anything to you. When you see Kaz without an arm and leg, that was a shocker to me because I knew who he was and the story prior. I didn't even notice he was missing an arm and leg during the mission until after I saw the cutscene of Kaz getting off the chopper.

You're playing to beat a game without any prior knowledge about MGS. Don't you feel disconnected? When I don't care about the characters or story, I'll blaze through it like CoD even when given the choice to play using stealth. I played The Witcher 3 without playing 1 or 2. I can do it but I won't know anything or care about the characters at all. At this point, I'll be playing just to play a game. I played for a few hours then stopped. Even if it has cool cutscenes, it won't really mean anything to me. All I know is I have to find Ciri and the Wild Hunt is dangerous. Why would anything else matter if I'm trying to be efficient?
