Here is my end goal for this build get http://pcpartpicker.com/user/wes1099/saved/3JxNnQ , I just need a motherboard. I already have one of the 970's and the H220-X, but the H220-X will probably have to go when I get the 2nd GPU. I also have some extra PSU, drives, fans, memory, and CPU that I will probably be using at first, but they are not optimal.
Depends on your budget, all motherboards are meant to perform the same but some have better features than others which makes their prices varies on the other hand. Budget?
Don't waste your money on overpriced Asus crap that offers you nothing of value but the name "Maximus Gene". If you're that worried about sound, take the $80 you saved and buy a Sound Blaster Z instead which would blow away the on-board audio.
Asus is the best motherboard manufacturer, and if you can afford Asus why waste the money on MSI who is no near Asus in terms of quality. Have used couple of MSI motherboards and Asus, and MSI was just too prone to tearing with poor software customability. No software you get free gives you better customability than you do with Asus ai suite. You get what you pay

Asus AI Suite is the biggest piece of junk I have ever used. MSI Command Center works so much better it isn't even funny. Keep wasting your money for the Asus name though and I'll keep saving money and getting a better product than you
. I also won't have to wait a week to get an e-mail asking me to confirm the serial number I sent Asus to start my RMA process and then another month till they finally ship me out a new board.
Asus are the only the #1 motherboard manufacturer at one thing, charging the most money. They are in reality the fourth best at actually making boards.

You got a point but I can't stand heavy tearing and almost cheap looking motherboard. "MSI Command Center" is good but it lacks goodies that you will find with ROG motherboards.

And there's that same argument about Asus. Why would I pay twice the price for a product that is basically the same but with more "goodies" that I will never actually use? Not to mention AI Suite causes rogue BSODs and is a pain to actually get working in the first place. Never had an issue with MSI Command Center and it does everything I want it to do.
If you are going for world record extreme OCs than Asus is probably worth the extra money, but outside of that you get nothing over MSI/ASRock/Gigabyte except you pay twice the price and basically don't have a warranty.
Also yes I realize I have an Asus motherboard in my sig rig, but this is just a temporary build till the new stuff comes out and I got it as a package with the CPU for really cheap.

For the cost, you're getting similar OC capabilities to push your cpu no different than the Gene VII and if you don't mind spending another $32 (you'll get $20 back after the rebate), buy this...
