Okay, so I'm building a new rig due to my 780i mobo crashing on me and I've decided to go AMD this time. I'll be using the ASUS crosshair IV motherboard, which I can get for $75. Now, my real issue is which CPU to go with. I can get an FX 8150 for $80, or an FX 8350 black edition for $170. As far as overclocking goes, which would I be able to achieve the highest overclock on with this board? And would the performance be any different between the two at the same clock speeds? Thanks for any and all advice!
Price to performance is much better on the 8320...You can manually clock a 8320 to 8350 speeds, maybe even higher. It all depends on how the chips are binned.
Which would I be able to clock higher on air? I'm using the ASUS Silent Square EVO as my cooler.
If I do go with 8320, I'm thinking I'd be better off with the 8320 over the 8320e, since from what I've read so far the 8320e doesn't support hyper threading
It all depends on the specific chip you get...But with that cooler you got you should be able to clock a 8320 to 4.0 (8350 speeds). Just watch your temperatures and start with a slight overclock dont just jump into 4.5 or 5 ghz. If you see the temps are too hot, the money you saved you can always get a new cooler

I'm not sure but I think that cooler may not be up to the task of any of these cpus. also, none of these support hyperthreading as that's a copyrighted Intel technology. the FX 8320 original was the most poorly binned vishera cpu as far as VID and clocking (still it's all a lottery in the end). the 8320E, 8310 if you can find it or 8370E (though I'd never suggest paying $200 for an FX unless you already have a good motherboard and cooler to use it with) are the only logical way to go for FX 8 core cpus these days.

Alright, now I guess the final deciding factor is how high could I clock the 8350 with it? I want, no, I NEED, the highest possible clock I can get. I'm probably going the be using this setup for the next three years at a minimum, five or six at worst.
It all depends on the specific chip. You can get a chip that let's you do 5.0+ on 1.4-1.5 voltage or you can get a chip that even with 1.5 volts you cab only get 4.6.. It is a matter of luck and hardware combo. If money is not an issue they have the 9370 and 9590 but y will need top of the like air cooler or water.
oh wow, I read that as crosshair V somehow. I had a CHIV Formula, my last time with AMD. was the best motherboard I used until then. probably still is. don't know how vishera support is on it.
So basically what you guys are saying is the 8320e uses the exact same chip as the 8350. The 8350 is just clocked higher out of the box. And that in theory, the 8320e and 8350 will achieve the same maximum clock speed if overclocked side by side on two identical systems with identical coolers?

6300 and the cheaper fx 8-threaded CPU's are good budget chips if your workloads are highly threaded, but if you care so much about a ~5-10% performance difference (4.5ghz vs 4.7-5.0) then they're not the chips to buy. Just get stuff that's cheap and runs well (like an 8320 with a decent air cooler), because you're wasting money trying to max out Vishera in the name of performance.
In that case, what LC would you recommend? Preferably something at or under $100. If I had more cash I would just do a custom LC build but sadly I'm a poor college student haha. My case is an Antec 900 so it's going to be a little noisy no mater what I go with

air coolers usually rival the closed loop liquid coolers at much lower price points. ^I use a thermalright silver arrow too. There's less choice of midrange air coolers in the US i think, but there are still some good ones at various performance levels (usually at ~$35-75 unless you go low end)
OP, I vote for 8310 instead of the 8320e. But that's just me. 8310 is ultra-cheap and may be able to reach 8350-like speeds at lower vcore than the 8350 (which the 8320e can also do, typically).
You will need to upgrade the Crosshair IV to a Crosshair V if you want to use an 8320/8320E/8350/83570
