I have no interest in OR because of Facebook's acquisition...not saying SteamVR won't have some Google Ad anlyitic running in the background but personally they're a bit more trustworthy than FB

I personally don't think the Facebook acquisition is an issue. Nothing they have done at Oculus has hinted at anything bad for consumers.

It'd be stupid if it isn't OLED based. A VR headset with a panel that can't do very deep blacks is a step back from what's already being worked on imo.

Am I the only one who really dont care about VR ?!! Im more interested in Augmented Reality to be honest... I was really impressed by Microsoft's concept and really surprised that there is actual hardware to run some early demo.

Many people do as well. It's just a display replacement for those who can't afford a proper big screen. it adds nothing new to gaming at all. At least 3d added depth, but even that turned out to be another gimmick.

The issue with OLED right now is the deep blacks cause smearing when a schene moves about. Its a major issue with DK2 right now.

No confirmation for consumer version resolution. So 2,592,000 total or 1,296,000 pixels per eye. Actually the PPI on the Vive seems to be quite a bit higher than the DK2, and slightly higher than even a 1440p version at same size.
  • DK2 1920x1080 @ 5.7in = 386 ppi
    (confirmed)
  • Vive uses 2 screens 1200x1080 each @ 2.8in = 576 ppi
    (estimate screen size)
  • Oculus Rift 2560x1440 @ 5.7in = 515 ppi
    (that is if the CV1 is at same screen size, should be close, if not exact)

The Vive looks to be amazing! And some good competition to the Rift.

PPI shouldn't be all that relevant. What matters is what resolution you have and how big of a field of view it occupies.

Compare it to PPI differences between TVs and phones. When a phone takes up as much of your FoV as a TV and both have the same resolution they should appear as sharp even though the phone as a huge PPI advantage. The same applies here, it's about resolution and FoV (+ stuff like gaps between pixels etc.)

That's my understanding at least.

And that worries me because the Vive HMD should have a really big FoV but the resolution isn't stellar.
