GIGABYTE GTX 9xx H2O/AIR BIOS Tweaking ┌(ô益ô)┐ - Page 20

Alright, so thanks to propi62 I've got the latest F51 update for my card and installed it.
I'm really pissed off from this weird behaviour my card is having. I tried to tweak the stock BIOS a bit and set the boost clock to 1519 MHz and the memory at 8000 MHz. All the other values are at stock. I was expecting the card to easily handle this since I previously had a BIOS in which I had a fixed voltage of 1.225 V and 1519/8000 as clocks. I had no issues with that.
Now the card still shows that stupid voltage limit perfcap in GPU shark and moving the slider in afterburner to the maximum (+87mV) doesn't fix the issue. Which is completely odd to me since the card was able to keep those clocks at 1.225v, and now at 1.243v I get the voltage limit issue! How do I confirm if this card has some issues? I don't want to keep it if it's not working properly.

Laithan has offered to take a look at your bios to make sure it's perfect. Just upload it so he can take a look. smile.gif There's no way to help you if we can't see the bios.

Hey guys,

I could really do with some help. My card has been running fine since I had it. But annoyingly I flashed a corrupt DP bios to my card and now it wont work. All I get is a blank screen if I try and use the left hand dvi port and my pc won't boot. I do have a stock DP bios that I want to flash it back to but I am unsure how to do this.

I'm currently using the second dvi port (the DD bios version/right hand DVI) to get things going but I need to know how to flash my DP bios again.

Also none of my display ports work (they did before) so I presume this is because of the corrupt DP bios also?

I'm at loss what to do so I would appreciate any help.

Thanks

put your 280 in the main slot to boot & the 980 in the second.

http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/nvflash-download.html

flash the bios to gpu 1

just search for nvflash recovery method. i dont have any nvidia cards or know the commands off the top of my head.
but you can unbrick it thumb.gif

Although I haven't specifically recovered a bricked card, I would assume the flashing process is the same. If not someone may need to supplement my instructions. The idea is that you want to specify which video card in your system you want to flash. It should be video card (1) because the one that you are booting from is (0). You really don't want to make any assumptions so you can use NVFLASH to list the cards in the system that it can 'see'. If this program can't see the card, that's a very different scenario so let's hope it does.

In advance get the correct BIOS ready to flash (either the stock or a custom one, and if you need help let us know). I use the NVFLASH from Joe dirt modified (Click to show) and since your existing BIOS is corrupt, you may need his version that can force the flash.

Follow advice above by using your GTX280.. The idea is that you are booting your PC off the working card and the non-working card is installed but not active.

There is no need to install the video driver for the GTX280 however windows may install one for you. If a reboot is required, go ahead and reboot to complete the hardware wizard. When you boot back up open up device manager and make sure BOTH video cards are disabled either way before you attempt to use NVFLASH.

Open a command prompt as administrator.

Type nvflash --list
output (Click to show)
B:\>nvflash --list

NVIDIA Firmware Update Utility (Version 5.206)
Modified Version by Joe Dirt

NVIDIA display adapters present in system:
<0> GeForce GTX 980 (10DE,13C0,1458,3669) H:--:NRM S:00,B:01,PCI,D:00,F:00
<1> GeForce GTX 980 (10DE,13C0,1458,3669) H:--:NRM S:00,B:02,PCI,D:00,F:00

B:\>

So at this point you can easily tell which one is which, especially since your models will not be identical.

To specify which card you want to flash, you can use this command:

type in nvflash -i1 -6 good.rom

-i0 is the first card in the system
-i1 is the second card
etc.

EDIT: Gigabytes have 2 BIOS' as you mentioned. I don't know if you will encounter this or not, but I was thinking using this method will obviously be flashing ONE of the TWO BIOS' on the Gigabyte card. If it happens to be the wrong one, you might be able to force the OTHER BIOS to be active by connecting a monitor to the proper DVI port (even if the card doesn't work), just so the card can detect that DVI port is connected and hopefully activate/target the BIOS you want to re-flash. I posted dual BIOS instructions in the OP.

Also, the fact that Gigabytes have a dual BIOS should come in handy for just this occasion. I just don't personally know (haven't researched) how to boot up on one BIOS and flash the non-active one, but Gigabyte's utilities that THEY provide MIGHT do just that for you.. VGA@BIOS utility possibly..

EDIT#2: This may also help. I don't use DVI, I use DP. The BIOS I boot from when there are NO DVI connections is the DP BIOS, so I think you might be all set without any complications. Good luck! thumb.gif

Yes that's right my 980 has 2 bios's on it. It still works on the second bios but I think this only controls the second dvi port as none of the display ports work so I guess they are controlled with dvi 1's bios.

So I need a second monitor plugged into the corrupt dvi 1 port to try and make it active so nvflash flashes the first dvi port.
