GIGABYTE GTX 9xx H2O/AIR BIOS Tweaking ┌(ô益ô)┐ - Page 219

Victory! thumbsupsmiley.png

I've just succeeded to mod my new G1 Gaming Max Unleashed v1.1 thumbsupsmiley.pngspecool.gif
This time it all went smooth like butter but I was in DVI-I connection (just in case), I still need to go on DP on my Asus VN279QLB

Already done some (not very intensive) bench tests like Heaven, Valley (both on loops and benchmark) and the def. Fire Strike
I had to install the afterburner and max the two pl and voltage sliders like you already know

Here are the results (still on default memory):

42 C max gpu temp biggrin.gifcool.gif

Guys, do you confirm the results?
I don't know, I have like a slight feeling they're a bit low, what do you think? rolleyes.gif

Results are good. Remember to oc your vram a little. What vram chips do you got?

42? Are you running under water?

Still dont get the sliders thing in msi ab...

Under water, yes:

http://imgur.com/a/aew5p

And yeah, I've already overclocked the mem too, ~8000 (92.4% TDP), hynix chips btw
However I'm not satisfied with the Fire Strike result:

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/8838240

It's lower than the yesterday evening vanilla G1 Gaming bios @oc 1520 / 8040 memory at default vcore (1.212v):

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/8828094

I've scored better even with my old WF3 bios with the above oc:

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/8814221

The Heaven score is a little better:

Score is fine, dont expect much more than that.

Use msi ab to check clocks under bench.

Also mem at 8200 could give you lower scores. I dont think mem can run that high. It will look like it´s working but it will give unstability sooner or later.

It´s like people running gpu at 1600mhz, I can run at that speed too and do firestrike, heaven, etc. Also play some games with no errors at all, but that is far from a stable gpu and you will encounter errors just by changing drivers, playing specific parts of many games.

For me, is not worth it. Only for benching.

I wonder how many perfcap the stock bios has. With edited bios, no perfcap at all.

With a stock BIOS you will get both voltage and power perfcaps. No perfcaps is one of the advanatges of using MUMOD wink.gif

I can overclock it very well with this bios.
I also made a test with stock F42 and it was not stable at all with the same settings!
I strongly advise to do the mods to F40 and not F42!

Woo hoo! Great news smile.gif. Keep in mind a BIOS isn't magic, it is just going to tweak your GPU to get the most from it. It will be faster than stock and allow for more overclocking headroom but nothing is ever guaranteed. If you are able to run with even the default boost speed of 1531Mhz, no perfcaps, no throttling, etc. , 100% stable that's a WIN right there. If you can overclock even more, you're golden! smile.gif

The BIOS tweaks are not just for speed but do other things as well. Notes in the OP for those who are curious of all the tweaks (all listed).

Good advice here! ^, very true too far can hurt.

To add, 8000Mhz is not stock, MANY people just run memory at 8Ghz.. well because they can.. Stock is 7000Mhz/7Ghz. As you push the memory more and more ( this can also be true for the GPU also ) you reach a point of diminishing returns and if you push memory too far then you can create errors (you won't see or notice them necessarily all the time) that will result in LOWER scores (I suspect because data had to be re-sent and/or re-processed due to errors). My old 980's could NOT run memory at 8Ghz (and they were even samsung chips) so YMMV.

The best thing IMO is to NOT overclock memory at all initially. Find your maximum stable GPU BOOST speed FIRST by adding +10Mhz to the core, test with FFXIV free bench and if stable add another +10Mhz and repeat.

Once you know your max stable GPU speed then you can introduce memory overclocking. Overclocking your memory CAN affect your GPU overclock however I think it was due to power constraints that I feel have been removed in the mod BIOS. Just a disclaimer that SOMETIMES you may need to slightly lower your GPU clock after you start overclocking memory but again I think this is going to be more of an issue with a stock BIOS. Overclocking your memory draws a considerable amount of additional power (not everyone knows this).

You also cannot just say run 3DMark, get a score, adjust the memory and run it again. Those results will be FLAWED as there is ALWAYS a variance in benchmark scores from one run to the other. A single benchmark can mislead you. The best way to determine results are to average the scores. A minimum of 3 full runs at any given configuration, all all 3 scores together then divide by 3.. There's your average. It is more consistent to compare average scores when trying to find the best performance of our GPUs.

Just FYI - FFXIV Heavensward benchmark (free) @ 4k max settings is the most demanding benchmark out right now. If your overclock passes a full run without issues, you're almost guaranteed stable! thumb.gif

EDIT: Link to download free bench

Yep, 30 or 40 points difference, can be considered equal results.

If your clock keep at max speed during benchs, everything is fine. You can rise a few points more by fine tuning your bios a little more, but again, we are talking about 50-100pts at best.

Vram oc requires fine tuning too. Best is rise the clock until you get the same scores at bench or they start lowering. Also need a lot of game testing.

When I had the 970 with hynix, first time my mem OC was 7900mhz. Everything worked great, loops of every bench, gaming, etc. Even I´d finished some games. And played with this settings for 4 o 5 months.

But... then I encountered some little small colored dots on dying light, downclocked the mem to 7800, seemed to work fine.

Then... I found some circuits from project cars that will give some very little colored points, only on tunnels.

So, mem went down to 7600. And that was the real stable clock.

@Laithan, trihy
Thanks guys for your infos and tips, I already knew some of them but somehow just ignored them (lately) smile.gif
Yep, I always liked the concept of max stability first and then max (tweaked) settings and oc after (and with the correct vcore)
Will then continue testing in this manner (you've just indicated me) and first with the vga only.
For the memory let's say I've only tested on the 7500, 7800, 8000 and 8050 with the stock WF3 bios and so I think I'll start with the 7500 (once it's done with the gpu oc), I really don't quite have all this time to dedicate (and it's already late for a gm204) biggrin.gifrolleyes.gif

So, you're saying FFXIV, then FFXIV shall be, I can't wait to see how's looking. tongue.gif
But can I run a higher resolution than my 1080p on this benchmarks using the nvidia's dsr just like in the games?
And something else, about the msi afterburner:
Should I set it to start with windows? And will it this way load the two (voltage and pl) maxed sliders on startup as well or do I have to play with the two (2d and 3d) profiles?
In case I won't (decide not to) make it start with windows and so getting a lower clock gpu boost, will I still get the 1.275v on gpu 3d load (one can think to use this formula sometimes, with some less demanding games but if this high vcore would be used then I think it's not worth)?

Will keep you informed with this weekend oc bench sessions and with some games too, right now I can test with the Project Cars, DAI and (if I feel in the right mood to restart a new game +) TW3, all in ds 1440p @72hz of my monitor oc. smile.gif

@DeathAngel74
Nice, I just can't wait to get the SW when it shows up. biggrin.gif
I can see your gpu's not getting a 99% of load, what res and v-sync refresh are you playing at?
