So, why don't you guys use the nvidia inspector instead?

Hey guys. Is it possible to edit bios so it doesn't drop frequencies at low gpu loads? For example i need constant 1570/8200 for my card.

You can find this feature without a BIOS mod, just use "K-BOOST" in EVGA Precision X.

Does this also work in MSI AB? Not by default but if you simply copy the skin from precison X and paste it into the MSI AB skins folder it will work. thumb.gif

It can be done in BIOS also but TBH, running your card at full voltage/full max overclock "24/7" isn't going to be recommended or really even suggested by most and that's not how we roll here wink.gif. You will generate a lot more heat and draw a lot more power. Using K-BOOST gives you the option to turn it on and off when you need it.

If all you really want is your GPU to not throttle under load, that IS how we roll here, K-BOOST not needed for that but you did say low loads, so for that you need K-BOOST biggrin.gif

@Aurosonic
What you want is for it to go to max clocks like mine does for some 2D applications without throttling right? (And of course the same in 3D applications) Chrome runs at max clocks for me. IDK why laithan doesn't suggest this but just change the clock settings states in your BIOS from 1,2,0 to 0,0,0. Make sure your boost matches your max clock as well. Double check that your MAX crossbar (XBAR), Level 2 Cache (L2C), SYS (?), and GPC (GPU Core Clock), are also the same as your max boost, etc in P0. I think you can edit the lower states as well if you really want them to run at the max clocks as a workaround, but you'll have to edit all your voltage clocks/steps to match which can be tedious and IMO is not what you really want.

So do this:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

@Laithan, I don't understand why you don't do this. It throttles otherwise. Perhaps it's just with the 970 and not 980 or 980 Ti?

It shouldn't that's strange. 970's should be no different. Did you customize ANYTHING from the MUMOD settings in your custom BIOS? Can you attach a GPU-z log of this throttling? Firestrike does it?

I can't use 3dmark reliably. It either doesn't install, or if it does freezes. I reinstalled since then and it was working fine but the LOooooong demo you can't skip unless you buy it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I'd pirate it but there's no torrents of the latest version. That says a lot. Screw Futuremark. Actually...Looks like I'll be giving it a shot. I want to like it. I really do.

The throttling happens under any load. OCCT Heaven, Heavensward (Tried it, looks pretty neat but takes too long and is too big IMO, not keeping it) Games like BF4. Everything. Once it hits 70c clocks drop 100MHz. If I set 1,2,0 all to the same clock it doesn't

Just tried 3dMark and on the second test it froze, and FPS climbed to 1500+, I tried to alt tab but couldn't. I was able to pull up task manager but the deaktop was completly frozen. No mouse, no controls, even the time stopped. I could alt tab back into 3dmark and try to alt F4, but it didn't actually do anything. After a few minutes of fiddling I gave up and hit shutdown through ctrl alt delete since that was the only thing that did anything, but even that could not complete! After another few minutes I just did a hard shutdown! thumb.gif

And that is my experience time and again with 3Dmark. It's buggy as all hell. No it's not my system it's all tested and stable, OS is too, but I reinstall yearly anyway. I'll give it one more chance.

Ok, I finally got it to work. biggrin.gif So, will I end up liking it? HAve to compare scores to tell.

I'm guessing everybody uses Firestrike Ultra now? Last time I used it it was 3dmark11. It's a shame new versions come out so often because your old scores become "obsolete" since nobody else is comparing and neither are you. I have no idea how I stack up against my GTX 770 of the recent past. I think my graphics score was 9000 something and CPU was 4500, combines 11000? IDK... long time ago.

Anyway, here's this. Better way to export or something?

3dmark-autosave-20151029093604.zip 213k .zip file

No throttling with my bios. I'll have to test Laithan's another time.

Check the first post, it will answer all your questions. Even this one. thumb.gif

I'm pretty sure DD is Dual DVI and DP is Displayport. There's a chart showing exactly which ports goes to what bios. If you're unsure you could flash both, but if you have to modify the bioses to fit your firmware version it's a lot of work and better to figure out what you're using. F3 Samsung is what these bioses are I think, if your card isn't an F3 Samsung you'll have to copy settings over manually.
