IT doesn't do it all the time, just sometimes. I have a GTX 980 ti G1, tried both stock bios and F4 BETA - same thing.

I think it might be my mobo, its more than 5 years old now. GIgabyte P67-UD3 B3 with 2600K. Any of you experience stuff like this at all ? Ot maybe my PSU is dying ? its about 5 years old.

i also have problems with 3dmark itl just freeze and crash my pc yet i can run valley benchmark at 4k ultra quality with x8 AA in fullscreen for over 5 hours straight

Not sure if it's related, but it seems the FireStrike tests are stressing GPU much more than Valley.
I can roll Valley at higher core without crashes while FireStrike causes drvier crash.
It seems to be just more demanding test or it's not well optimized?

I think a little of both, more demanding on maxwell, on earlier architectures the gap would not be so wide. It's definitely optimized, just not perfectly. IMO 3dmark is just unstable. If there's no errors with OCCT after 5 minutes,15 tops, yet 3dmark crashes, then it's 3dmark, not the card.

OCCT had last update in Sept 2014 no?
It's still reliable?
I'm really not sure which benchmark to trust now for stability test.

Each test will have it's own uniqueness with regard to exactly what portions of the GPU are put to work and how hard they work.

This is why one test will pass and another will fail in general. No 2 tests can be directly compared.

This is also why we have the term "GAME STABLE" instead of "BENCHMARK STABLE" as it was a term used to clarify that the stability works across "all games" and is NOT just an overclock that manages to pass a benchmark run. Firestrike is notorious for finding instability and that's a good thing.

Of course running fine in some games doesn't mean the overclock qualifies as "GAME STABLE" either, if the games being played are not pushing the GPU harder than the benchmarks. This is variable that is always present and must be factored.

Firestrike/Firestrike Ultra is proven stable.. so in the rare instances where it is not, 9/10 times the overclock is just too high (and yes it could only surface under certain workloads like firestrike) and the other time it is because there is something wrong with the install or other software that may be a pre-requisite.

We all HATE to have to lower our overclock, especially when it is just ONE app we've found that seems to have an issue but in reality, we can't blame the app if it works just fine @ stock speeds smile.gif.

There's of course some rare exceptions. wink.gif

This stupid OC GURU is giving me a headache... It doesn't work! The card's LED will randomly switch OFF even if I have it set to ON instead of AUTO. Shouldn't it stay on regardless of the cooling fans behaviour???

I'm trying to use GTX 970 DP BIOS as reference, however BIOS Tweaker won't allow me to set the CLK 0.. and CLK 06 right side sliders to 825.0mV. It goes either 818.8mV or 831.3mV. (In fact, adjusting the very custom BIOS that has it at 825.0mV, if I slide it I am unable to go back to 825.0mV.) What do?

OCCT may be dead, there's no sign of life from the developer. However it loads the GPU higher than 3dMark. Temperatures will always be significantly higher on OCCT. The real reason I deem OCCT to be THE BEST test of stability is the error checking function. There are errors you can't always see as artifacts. THis will pick them up and give you the number in real time instead of crashing. You can get a lot of errors before you crash, and a couple here and there that doesn't appear as artifacts. I only get than after 84c @ 1493MHz, which my card never gets close to in anything else. More importantly you can see if it's the Core or VRAM having an issue, as VRAM will register as 100's of errors at once, while Core will go by a few to a dozen at a time. I have a 650 Ti that is perfectly stable for 10 minutes in OCCT with 3200MHz VRAM, but as soon as it reaches past 12 minutes it gets 3984613967 errors and drops everything in memory if the VRAM is clocked above 2900MHz. In game this is a black screen and freeze that pauses the game for 2 seconds then reloads as if nothing has happened. It was extremely rare, and only OCCT could help me diagnose exactly where the error was occurring reliably.

So while it may be true that it's "dead" for now, it still loads GPU's higher and hotter than anything else. Don't knock it till you try it Laithan. (BTW 3dMark is stable for me after the latest update. The old version had a bug).

Any software that interacts with brand specific hardware is almost guaranteed to be complete garbage. Razer Synapse, Corsair Link, EVGA Precision X, OC Guru, etc. You name it. The only competently made software I've found is MSI Afterburner, which is made by an outside developer. These companies are incapable of making stable, functioning software. I don't know know why, but their software development always sucks.

This. It skips steps without the arrow keys.
