Yup, its prematurely mounted though. Its on a 45 degree angle resting on my PSU cables and my HDD cage. Have a 120mm bottom mounted fan blowing up, then 5cm from that on the top I have the 200mm blowing directly on the GPU. Works like a charm and no vibration noises whatsoever.

I still sometimes hit the 70-71C but that's when GPU power hits 100-105%. Happy with that, and certainly better than the 78-80C I was getting.

I don't know on Me100 but Many of MSI 970 gaming 4g do have a weird power distribution . there is a old post if you search here, but what many have found is raising TDP (table1), PCIE plugs (table4/5) and power limiter (table6) didn't raise the limit where perf limiter hit.

What has to be done is raise the PCIE slot (table3) up from 66/75 to something higher (I use 74/78) but be careful IMO you don't want to go much if any over 80w .
go just enough for your usage, I find its not worth raising voltage , I can run 1500+ so I leave voltage at 1.218 stock values .

Here link to what i mean, check the power values section on MSI970 .

Can the card have higher default clocks like the G1 to run or it's best to increase the power target only so it would be unlocked, any other settings?
Also was wondering if this card is not G1 it maybe because it didn't pass the binning process or something?
I am just worried not to **** my card, not so rich to afford another.. better play safe smile.gif

Ok back. Your PCB is identical between the WF3 and the G1. You basically DO have a G1 card just not a G1 cooler and a G1 BIOS but we will fix that wink.gif

Performance will increase yes, simply because the G1 BIOS is tweaked better than the WF3OC but adding the modifications should help a bit also (removes perfcaps, throttling, etc). Don't expect miracles but it will be a little better especially when you run into situations where the GPU is starved for power. A STOCK BIOS will throttle.

As far as how to run the BIOS, don't treat it any differently than you would a STOCK BIOS. As long as your sliders are maxxed out, just overclock as high as you can until you can't go higher and maintain stability. You will need to have BOTH the power % and voltage sliders MAXXED when OVERCLOCKING. This is very important otherwise the GPU will be starved for power / voltage.

I understand your concern and I would have the exact same thoughts myself. There is nothing that is risk-free however we have never had anyone kill a GPU yet and we've done this many times wink.gif (at your own risk though). Quick fact not everyone knows, I started this thread using WF3 OC 980's and I flashed and developed the G1 BIOS with it smile.gif. I never technically "BOUGHT" 980 G1's but I effectively turned them into G1's thumb.gif

Your #1 concern is HEAT. You have a 400W cooler vs the G1's 600W cooler.

As I posted a few posts back, you need to do all these things to keep temps down.
what I posted (Click to show)
(1) Open your case, makes a huge difference
(2) Fans make noise, get over it cards need to be cooled
(3) A custom fan curve is MANDATORY with a MOD BIOS
(4) Supplemental fans on top and/or around your GPU are HIGHLY recommended (not we talking about this a few pages back)
(5) Clean out your dust bro!
(6) Tie up your cables man!
(7) Get a full cover block for your GPU wink.gif

The biggest thing to get right is the difference between DD and DP and knowing which one you are using. We know you are using the DP BIOS because I read the BIOS you posted. As long as you do not change your monitor config (to potentially activate the OTHER BIOS in the GPU which is DD) you will continue to use the DP BIOS.

Anyway, I have instructions on how to flash and a lot more than you want to read in the OP. Time to do some homework. teaching.gif

The short version = The BIOS in the OP, "V4BETAF4" is compatible with your GPU. Download that one and you are looking for the DP BIOS. All you need to do is flash it and reboot basically but don't follow these instructions, follow the ones in the OP that are much more detailed. You have to check some things.

Any questions just ask before you do anything and we will give you some help.

Excellent! It is literally an art and a science to get the right (most efficient) airflow in our case and just some MINOR adjustments can make HUGE differences. You want your GPU to top out at about 85C. That is still within range actually. 91C is the "published max" but temps can actually go higher (~100C but don't test it lol) but IMHO I wouldn't let it get past 85C.

Finding the right test is key also (forget furmakr and kombuster) because not all of them will make your GPUs run hot and/or push your GPU with max voltage, power, GPU workload and heat all at the same time.

FFXIV Free benchmark is an awesome test for heat generation to measure cooling effectiveness (4k max settings) as well as helping to find your REAL stable overclock (it will challenge even the "most stable" overclocks).

Hey I just needed an excuse to use that emoticon! Thanks DeathAngel74 LMAO!

5Ghz.. starting out with a slight O/C I see wink.gif

I ran the chip stock for almost a year. It actually overclocks like a champ without extra voltage. Runs 4.7 @ 1.190v, stock 4.0/4.4 turbo had 1.209v set automatically by the bios. When I can afford a custom loop, I'll shoot for 5GHz again!

I have like 71-72 degree C with auto fan on wicher 3 atm, but if i put it in manual it gets 60-69 max so was wondering how much the temp will increase.
Is there any thread to show how to flash the bios step by step so i don't do something wrong, i downloaded the x64 nvflash from the other topic and putted the 2 files in a folder with the modded bios for G1
thanks for the help really, greatly appreciated.
Don't know but maybe worth mentioning my important parts of the pc:

MB: GA-Z170X-Gaming 7
Ram: 2x8 Gb Hyper X
CPU: I7 6700k
PSU 700 Aurum S

I bought two cards, G1 and Xtreme because I am curious to see which one is better. HOWEVER, I somehow got the literally golden chips! wackosmiley.gif

G1 - ASIC 81.9% (!!!)
Stock Bio: Stable - 1552/7012 or 1519/8002, power limit: 100%, zero vcore, auto fan, 68°C.
Modded Bio (V4): Stable - 1539/8002, power limit: 100%, zero vcore, auto fan, 67°C.

Xtreme - ASIC 78.8%
Stock bio: Stable - 1580/8022, power limit: 100%, zero vcore, auto fan, around 59°C
Modded bio: Stable - 1595/8011, power limit: 100%, zero vcore, auto fan, around 55°C ---- Almost 1600 MHZ!!!!

It looks like that I will keep Xtreme one and return G1 this Friday. (unless you want this perfect G1, please pm me. biggrin.gif)

Laithan, thank you for those amazing modded bios!

PS: How can I post images here? confused.gif

yeah im happy with it, ram CR could be CR1 but i dont feel the need to tweak ram right now, its so time consuming.

but ive got a question for the topic,

im running the waterforce extreme bios on my msi 980TI 6g gamimg right now and can hit 1580 stable with +350 on memory (im testing with final fantasy benchmark 4k) the highest temps ive ever got was 55c (custom loop) i kinda want to get 1600 just for having it but would increasing the bios voltage help? or is there a cap at 1.281/7v? whats even considered "safe" ? i beleive theres a titan x bios with 1.310v or more. would be 1.3v safe? temps arent capping me at all id say.

btw what nvidia driver are you using? i feel like the last one was more stable than the newest one.

thanks in advance
