Manual Fan Setting on OC Guru = 60-65C average (louder)
Auto Fan Setting on OC Guru = 70-75C average

Does this BIOS have a different fan curve/profile compared to the stock?

Cheers (I'm a bit of a noob with all of this so please forgive me tongue.gif)

Hi there smile.gif
Not a problem we all start somewhere..

You have to ask yourself, do I want to overclock my GPU or not? Should you accept this risk and choose to overclock (and/or MOD your BIOS), you lose the right to complain about noise tongue.gif. You MUST keep your GPU cool. That is the #1 priority not noise levels. If you want quiet throw on a water block and if it bothers you that much you may need to downclock wink.gif

OK with that over with thumb.gif

The fan settings are modified in the BIOS however I would definitely say a custom fan curve is pretty much mandatory. I wouldn't use O/C GURU II if you paid me, use MSI AB and set a custom fan curve.

This MOD (am I allowed to say this?) is thumbsupsmiley.png

Yes I would definitely recommend it however it's at your own risk of course (disclaimer). You're going to get higher performance, more power, more overclocking potential, remove all perfcaps, consistent clock speeds, smoother voltage table, virtually eliminate all throttling (Power, voltage and thermal). Also draw more power, generate more heat and increase power supply requirements.

To be politically correct, it's CFW or Custom Firmware sir. At least you didn't name it MUDOD-M33, LMAO. How's it going bro? PC is stable again. I really dig the Gigabyte motherboard.

Thanks for the info. If I update to the custom BIOS but while using the settings to get a boost of 1430mhz on the core would it still run hotter because of the voltage increase? Or does it only use the maximum voltage when needed?

I am OK with the noise level of the 'Auto' setting found on OC Guru but I guess I will move over MSI Afterburner to create a custom fan curve.

I don't wanna be like that CFW crew, plus we already got the MUMOD tattoos (no.. we really didn't). Your Gigabyte motherboard would really dig a Gigabyte GPU too... (jusss sayin) biggrin.gif

Glad you got things under control there! Wahoo!

980Ti right? The MOD BIOS will default to 1291Mhz CORE and 1455Mhz BOOST (pre-overclocked) without adding any additional overclocking. Temps are going to go up for sure but that's the point of buying a GPU with a huge copper cooler w/3 fans tongue.gif right?

They won't go up that much just keep an eye on them for a while and you may need to add some supplemental cooling, clean wires, dust, add case fans, leave case open, install ghetto coolers smile.gif, etc.

Okay I'm sold. Going to try it out tonight. thumb.gif

Can always go back to the stock bios if anything happens. smile.gif

Just be clear on DD vs DP and know which one to flash.

Start out this way smile.gif

You can reflash back to the standard bios. You can save your standard bios for use later if you wish. I believe the information for doing that is on the first post.

Have to have a disclaimer tongue.gif. Yes the BIOS MOD is "Forum overclocked" (get it, as opposed to "Factory overclocked"... cummon people laugh.. (sigh) redface.gif ) so the DEFAULT speeds will be:
1291Mhz core (unless you have adaptive power management enabled then it drops waaay down)
1445Mhz BOOST (AIR BIOS)
1506Mhz BOOST (H2O BIOS)

without any additional overclocking and the sliders are set like THIS:

Your biggest concern is getting the correct BIOS for your GPU and knowing the difference between DD and DP (see the OP).

Any questions just ask!

Thanks guys, you all are so kind and helpful! smile.gif

Ok, so the last steps and questions before flashing (can't wait to enter this big family!) wink.gif

1-how can I save my current bios? GPU-z?
2-Since I use DVI-D it seems to me I have to flash the DD bios, right?
3-is the correct bios the one in the first post, isn't it? (gtx980ti g1 gaming air)
4-So I can't keep adaptive power management, otherwise flashing it's useless. Should I keep prefer maximum performance enabled in nVidia control panel then?
5-(noobest question you will ever read) How am I supposed to know if the GPU is throttling while testing? (please forgive me for askig this)
6-should I create a custom preset for the cooling fans of the videocard with afterburner? Any suggestion? smile.gif

Thanks really, I can't wait to unleash my GPU!!! biggrin.gif

1. nvflash -b your_romname.rom or gpu-z, disable the gpu in device manager first. you might need to type nvflash --protectoff first, then re-enable the gpu.
4. you can set adaptive in global and max performance for games and benchmarks
5. gpu-z has a sensor table, run gpu-z in the background, if it's throttling you'll see a green bar that says "pwr" in the perfcap section(its not an issue with this BIOS). thermal, voltage, power restrictions have been removed as well.
6.I'd try to stay between 65C-70C, but I have OCD about temps, so those stardards may be too high. in the end it's whatever you are comfortable running your card temp wise.

1.1 - GPU-z is easiest. It disables the GPU in device manager for you automatically.
2 - Yes should be but I always open with Maxwell BIOS Tweaker v1.36 to check and make sure it is DD.
3 - I don't know if your GPU is compatible with F4 or F10. You'd need to find that out when you open your existing BIOS.
4 - Yes adaptive works just fine. This 4k benchmark is using adaptive.

6 - YES smile.gif
