GIGABYTE GTX 9xx H2O/AIR BIOS Tweaking ┌(ô益ô)┐ - Page 546

I've managed to get these two pics of the 1080 G1:

I kinda like it and also I know for sure that EK's going to release their G1 wb soon thumb.gif

This is pointless...

We've already seen how the Frowner's edition and the Gigabyte G1 (BOTH only have a single 8-pin PCI-e) perform IDENTICALLY. This shows that since Pascal runs cooler, improving cooling with the triple fan design did absolutely NOTHING.. Both designs produced literally identical performance.

Water cooling them is going to reduce temps.. yes... we can't MOD the BIOS yet so increased voltage and VRM load isn't even an option. POWER is the biggest restriction right now, PWR perfcaps everywhere...This water block isn't going to provide more power... Even the shunt solution (hard modification) is STILL capped at the max you can draw with a single 8-pin PCI-e....

I can't blame EK for selling the blocks.. cuz there's bozos that buy them. rolleyes.gif

doh.gif

You mean there're no hope for any further oc increment under water and with a bios mod?
Even within the "limit" of those max watts? thinking.gif

Thanks, it wouldn't flash with JoeDirt version, had to download the Asus GPU Tweak II utility that has Nvflash built into it in the installation files. It was suggested by another user on here a few posts back and it worked perfectly with nvflash -6 biosname.rom command. Been testing a few games, temps somehow are lower by 2c, but fan profile hasn't seemed to change at all. Clock speeds boost and hold around 1938mhz and memory went up about 100ish mhz.

Well done funny lol thumb.gif

And they showed a 2100Mhz clocked card @ release...sounds like a cherry picked one to me..

I would buy used and save $$.. There's almost no wear and tear (just fans) and unless hard modded it should be just fine.

It's nice looking I agree but it feels so empty... I am completely blown away that they didn't at LEAST do a 8+6... mad.gif

Don't get wrong I think there's a little to be gained from going to H2O however assuming these Pascal boards work like most other modern GPUs, higher voltage should provide higher overclocks. We already know for sure (slam dunk) there's insufficient power. So basically I am saying that when voltage and power restricted, the investment to water cool a Frowner's edition/Gigabyte G1 1080 (plus I think voids your warranty) is likely not worth it to be honest.

This could change a lot with the ability to MOD the BIOS smile.gif

I know there's people that just want to watercool.. and they DON'T overclock (yes... it's true) which is a different perspective and not relevant to my points which are from the perspective of watercooling for major performance increases.

As far as hope... There's a major problem with only having a single PCI-e connector... it's limited to 230W (on paper).. Personally I would NOT ever attempt to pull more than 200W from a single 8-pin.. that's just safe and conservative while still gaining the full power benefits IMO. The fact that there are ALREADY other GPUs with both 8+6 and 8+8 certainly IMPLIES (if nothing else) that Pascal CAN benefit from additional power. STOCK BIOS power values for an 8+6 combined will probably just be slightly over the maximum a single (mod BIOS) 8-pin PCI-e cable could provide.

What this DOESN'T tell us is whether or not a BIOS mod could eliminate perfcaps just by bring the total power of a single 8-pin PCI-e up to the (for argument sake) 200W-230W range or will the additional overhead of having a dual power 8+6 be required to remove perfcaps or would an actual 8+8 configuration (combined 400W-460W) be required? All this we don't know because we cannot mod the BIOS yet blushsmiley.gif.

The 75W from the PCI-e slot is of course assumed in both comparisons (I know someone will say "what about the 75W from PCI-e slot?" smile.gif

NVIDIA intentionally locked us out of the BIOS this time, slap in the face to those that want to (at their own risk) push the performance on their personal computers.. They knew darn well this community exists and shut the door. IMO this is a valid 3 word argument against this that says it all.. " YOU GOT PAID "...(so why the heck do you care if we want to squeeze some performance for something already bought and paid for...)

The latest version on his page has been giving some folks issues with Maxwell. He has stated that it was a test version for Pascal and to use older versions for Maxwell. FYI Personally I use v5.218 by Joe Dirt. It works perfectly for me.

This is out of context and it was when we were first developing the MUMOD BIOS for the 980Ti but since it reminded me of something you would have posted if you were there at the time smile.gif

I hope we soon have a sequel thumb.gifbiggrin.gifband.gif

Could you please attach that version to a post , Joe's links are all down at Mega and TechPU doesn't have the Windows Version that I can see , thanks.

Not bad, this card is huge drool.gif
But we'll need to see the price also 2cents.gif

So, let's get back IT, our last hope now is on the EK's (hands) custom Xtreme wb also, hoping they'll not repeat the mistake of the 980Ti Xtremes, coming out with the waterblock way too late doh.gif

In the meantime Gigabyte strike back with its new GTX 1080 Xtreme Gaming Water cooling: drool.gif
