When do we want it? As soon as realistically possible! tongue.gif

Pretty much.

The ONLY thing keeping me on a Windows system is the gaming issue - and I will admit - decades of Windows use.

Hope this pushes Linux gaming. Though it'd take a miracle (aka, every single game and major piece of software I use coming to Linux) to get me to switch:P For me it's just not practical.

I'm wondering how a multi-vendor gpu setup would work, and if it becomes a reality, would it offer a benefit over a pure 1 vendor set up.. maybe for professional work?

I think the integrated+descrete support has a ton of budget gaming system potential..heck, even to be able to leverage my intel iGPU in some tasks would be nice.

Overall, interesting to say the least. It will be fun to see where this goes
Probably dynamically reserve parts of the screen to each GPU.

That's all single core stuff and the only thing you can try to do is overclock more. frown.gif

WoW and SC2 definitely have DX issues with large numbers of units. See Star Swarm.

Civ5 is entirely different, it has to do with the AI. DX12 and OGLN is not going to solve AI issues.

It would be far easier to set two different cards up for professional work than it would be for gaming. Gaming requires cards to be in sync, professional work doesn't necessarily need the cards to be in sync. Balancing the workload is a huge task to say the least, especially with the large numbers of different card combinations out there. See why Lucid Hydra failed. Too much work, each game and set of cards needed drivers written specifically for them. There is no easy way to balance the load.

Thats pretty much what I figured would/could be the case, as I don't see how an nVidia and AMD card could play nice in a gaming situation...and even if they could, I'd doubt it would be very efficient. Though, on the professional side, it seems like it could offer some interesting solutions, since each manufacturer seems that have their own strengths and weaknesses in that area.

I honestly think the most interesting thing to come off the slide, though, is the working of the dGPU and the iGPU in tandem. I'd figure that it would be a much broader application of what AMD tries to do with their APU crossfire. In such a case, it'd be nice to be able to leverage the possible performance, even if said performance gain is marginal... free boost in performance is a free boost in performance smile.gif

I would rather like to see it enable something like Optimus for desktops, where the screens are connected through the iGPU, and the dGPUs can be completely powered down when not in use. It would go especially well with AMD's Zero Core technology. nVidia did something similar in the past with Hybrid SLI and HybridPower with the first gen GTX 2xx cards, I would like to see that come back, with Eyefinity/nVSurround support. Sub-100 watt idle on a triple SLI/Crossfire system would be amazing IMO.
