Artisan released a new mousepad. It reads like the 'better Hayate'.
It basically is a Hayate pad but with a bit better stopping ability, more resistance to wear (no dust problem anymore?), and the difference in glide between the horizontal and vertical axis is reduced.
The best mousepad yet? I'll probably order one as the biggest problem shall be fixed, wear resistance. I'll make sure by asking them if that means less dust problems.
When I ordered my Hayate a few weeks ago, Artisan said they were out of stock but had a 'test' version of their new Hayate, promising an even smoother glide. I agreed to buy the test version of the new pad.
I never owned an old Hayate but it's a *very* smooth glide horizontally, similar or less friction than the less textured hardpads I own (like Razer Destructor 2 or fUnc f.10s) although more friction than the rougher hardpads (e.g. fUnc f.30r, Corsair MM400). Vertically is less smooth, but only marginally -- I can't compare to the old Hayate here, sadly.
As for the dust thing, I don't remember exactly what the old problem was -- dust would get trapped in the fabric weave, right? Dust seems to brush or blow off the pad very easily, so if that was the problem then it's been fixed.
The mat itself is very comfortable, the backing is super even and it sticks to everything.
Here's a picture. Apparently the dragon thing is 'a sign for test products' or something, all Artisan's communication is super engrish as usual.
Is it truly worn or is the glide different from when you got it?
Most people think their mouse pads is worn out once the glide changes. The issue can simply be PTFE transferring onto the pad after a lot of use. If you have a non black mouse pad you can see the PTFE stains where you move your mouse often, similar to tire marks on a racetrack. On my red Hien it is very apparent. Once the PTFE builds up the mouse starts to stick to the pad more -- there is much more static friction. To remove it I wash my mouse pads by hand with shampoo that has natural ingredients.
I never bought a Hayate because it was black and had soft foam. So I don't know if you could remove dust by just washing it by hand. Dust on my Hien comes out when I wash it.

If you do a lot of fast swipes does static electricity accumulate? My older Artisan pads do that. I have to take them off the table and remove the static.

That MAY be the new Hayate Otsu, but it's not quite sure.

I swiped around like I was trying to start a fire for about a minute and I didn't feel anything static-y afterwards. It seems to stick really firmly to the desk and needs to be peeled off after a longer play session, if that's what you mean.

As I said, a few weeks. And no, I don't have any decent cameras right now -- but it looks nothing like that. Any little dust or hair that gets onto the pad blows right off with my Data Vac.
The ability of [insert pro CS player who ISN'T hacking lol] to destroy you with a Dell office mouse on an Ikea desk with a keyboard made out of old shoes shouldn't stop you from loving your peripherals.

I can't tell if you're being a douchebag with the Bill Nye link or you legitimately think I didn't pass middle school science, but yes, that's exactly what it does.

I just took your words straightforwardly. I'm not trying to offend you.
So it does create static electricity? That doesn't happen with other mouse pads I have used -- that I am aware of. I only noticed it when my mouse started to act weird on the Artisan mouse pads. I figured it was static electricity accumulating. Sure enough, it was. I have to take the mouse pad off the table after awhile to discharge the electricity before it gets too bad.

Okay then, I just expected an actual demonstration video with the mousepad.
I wasn't 100% sure that it wasn't just the tiny pores in the rubber sticking to the desk because it only happens when I mouse over the pad with some pressure, so I got in nice and close and yes it's static alright. Because it only accumulates on the bottom of the mousepad I don't really feel a need to be worried about it, but it can be kind of annoying to reposition the pad when it does cling to the table because you have to peel it completely off to move it even a little.

I don't have the ability to upload a video easily. So I just linked that video...
When it got really bad my mouse stopped tracking due to the static electricity build up. It happened a few times before I realized what it was. At first I thought it was the bad MCU coding from Zowie.
I only have the stiffer foam versions. I'm not sure if the softer foam is more susceptible than the stiffer foam.
I wonder if they can fix that by making the pattern have more spacing or increase the size of the shape on the backing. The backing for me only works really well when the static is there or when there is moisture after cleaning.
but my experience with the old Hayate is that it's not durable and things (especially dust and clothes fiber) stick to it too easily and even cake in.
Man, if Artisan would create a machine washable mousepad like the puretrak that would be great but then again I don't the foam backing they use could survive in a washing machine.

Good to know, thanks. Mine is the soft version and it does the same thing, so it's probably common to all their 'fancy' backing. My Hien VE never did it. Sorry I misunderstood you; for some reason I always feel like I have to get ready for a fight when I post the littlest thing here. For some reason...

Mine should arrive today, will update in around three to four hours.
Updated: Just played a quick round of deathmatch in CSGO. Can only compare it to the Hayate, since that's the only Artisan I used so far.
Hayate
Hayate Otsu
- the Otsu feels slightly faster, though this might just be because it's new. I've been using the Hayate for 2 month now.
- feels rougher when gliding my hand over the surface, but I feel almost no difference ingame with my G303.
- feels like it has a tiny bit more stopping power than the Hayate.
- vertical velocity is faster than before (feels almost even to horizontal velocity now)
- the edges are smoother, that bothered me quite a bit on the old version tbh.
