Any AMD Motherboards w/ USB 3.1 + DDR4

Thread Starter
Hi everyone,

I've decided that my next computer that I'll be building will run on an AMD processor chip. I'm wondering if there will be any new AMD motherboards that will have USB 3.1 ports and also support DDR4 memory sticks. I've never owned an AMD processor chip before so I'm not familiar with the market and its new product developments.

Some information would be appreciated.

Not yet, maybe next generation

Any reason why you want to go for AMD?

I've done some research and quite a number of people say that AMD is better for gaming and Intel is better for productivity.
I'm thinking of getting the FX8350 processor.

But if next gen boards come out this year I will be looking at the new chips from AMD.
Yeah that's really not true. Intel is superior at both. Intel is considerably faster in any game that requires single-thread performance, and a bit faster in games that support multi-threads even when you put an 8-core AMD vs 4-core intel. Not to mention power consumption.

The thing AMD shines at is price. If you are on a budget then AMD is a good choice.

I would be surprised if this happens. It's not even clear AMD will release an FX version of Excavator (Carrizo) at all. You probably have to wait for Zen (~2016) before any new motherboards come out.

No idea where you have heard that from. That sounds like backwards rhetoric from 2012 (meaning you reversed what people used to say about the AMD vs Intel argument from a few years ago). In 2015, AMD processors are worse at both productivity and gaming than Intel's. That being said, AMD processors are more than fine for your standard single GPU 1080p/60FPS setup. Intel's processors really shine in high end setups, servers, and rendering machines.

There will be no "next gen boards" from AMD for quite some time, since that would actually require AMD to release a new chips that leverage such boards. Nothing new will be coming from them this year other than a refresh of their Kaveri APUs. Next year will possibly see the release of Zen but no one has any idea what that will actually bring as AMD are very hush hush about it.

Holy crap.

Rule number one, CPU choice doesnt matter in current games. They just want over 3GHz from a modern platform and like it when you have at least 4 cores or threads available to use. Games would rather you have enough system and video ram than ultimate processing power.

Rule number two. if your budget is $1,000 or less, AMD will allow you to be capable of grabbing a very nice graphics card. Very FEW games are bottlenecked by teh CPU, except in very high resolution setups.

Rule number three. EAT AAALLL the bacon!!!! thumb.gifsmile.gif

I agree with most of what you said except the bold part. You can easily put together a $1000 build with an i5 + 290 that offers better performance in single threaded and cpu intense games than the AMD will even at 1080/60. At $800 or less though AMD seems like the way to go.

Remember that people do play more than just AAAs on PC. MMOs/RTS/Simulators/Older games scale well with the beefier CPU.

CPU choice does matter in current games. Rating a CPU by its GHZ is like rating a camera by its Mpixels. Some games depend heavily on the CPU and single thread performance. A good CPU will give a nice FPS boost in some games.

I agree that on a budget the graphic card is a high priority, but you should not cheap out on bad CPU just because its high clockspeed.
