GTX960 performance thread - Page 2

Nice scores. I am happy with mine at 1080p too, considering it beats out a gtx 680 and only costs ~$200 it really is a value card. I think my old HD 5850 was only properly beaten by a lower mid range card in the last generation of GPUs, gtx 760/R7 265 so the 960 beating a 680 just 2 generations on is good going. I think people forget how slow the GPU industry can move at times, we were spoiled when ATI/AMD released the HD 4000 series then immediately followed with the HD 5000 series and Nvidia, though a little slow off the bat came out with the GTX 400 then GTX 500 series. I think things have been a little stagnant ever since in all but the highest tier cards with rebrands and "ghz" editions becoming the norm in the lower high end segment down to the lower mid range segment. Its nice to see some actual new silicon hit the market in this bracket. I think the efficiency of these 960s is a good sign of things to come. We can only hope AMD abandons its "brute force" at all costs approach soon and catches up a little in the efficiency department. While owning the "fastest single GPU" card on the market may be neat, I don't want a space heater in my case to do it. I am getting sick of seeing hybrid water cooled cards sitting at the top of the performance charts from AMD. I loved my 5850 but in my opinion the HD5k series were the last breakthrough AMD had with its GPUs, everything since has been slight revisions and throwing more heat and transistor counts at everything, often without as much of a performance gain as the changes should indicate. Its nice to see the Maxwell 2 cards actually breaking the mold a little from nvidia. Maybe AMD will wake up and follow suit.

I have an MSI GTX 960 100ME paired with an i5-4590 and a 1680x1050 monitor. I'm very pleased with the performance at that resolution. Pretty much max any game I own.

I have just uploaded a new benchmark video to youtube and linked it to the first post in the thread, it should be up in a few minutes. Shadows of Mordor plays beautifully on the gtx 960 at near ultra settings. I don't have the ultra texture pack downloaded, nor would I bother for 1080p hence "almost ultra" settings. I don't think you will actually notice any difference with the ultra textures at 1080p, the pixel density at this res really does not hold up once you get past 2048x2048 textures on objects and 4096x4096 on terrains. The ultra textures are really for 1440p and over imo.

Awesome, looking forward to seeing how these scale in a non reviewer scenario.

Very nice, going by my single card scores that's ~85% scaling in heaven. These cards seem to love SLI, I am looking forward to seeing some 4gb variants get reviewed or have scores posted here. I think 2 x 4gb gtx 960s will be a really nice SLI setup.

yeah for sure Xaltar. I agree. I upgraded from a single 7950 and before that I had 2 570s in SLI. The fact that these cards are so quiet and the fan only kicks in at 65deg is brilliant.

One week later bump.

Here's Heaven again, This time GPU 1282, Memory 1811 on the Gigabyte ITX 960. I used EVGA Precision downloaded via Steam.

2 FPS improvement from Ultra/Extreme stock.

The most beautiful part of this, load temperature was 65 degrees. 15 below the power limit. I might push it another 5% and go up a GPU level from the Toms Hardware GPU guide just like I did my old card.
