In another month it will be cold enough in Quebec that you can build a shed outside to house everything and not worry at all about cooling solutions!!!

They're in my workshop, which only has brick, plywood, thin foam and tar paper as an R value. Plus, there's a gap about 1/2" under the door xD. It gets plenty cold wink.gif

The fans will help tremendously with condensation though.

So, I just managed to get my hands on two HD 7950's with EKWBs for around 200$ USD. These will be paired with the Club3D R9 285, which should complete my first rig!
post #407 of 432

7950s and the 285 are very close cards. A regular 280 is essentially a 7950 with a higher clock. I think they used a different PCB and slightly modified GPU for the 285 though.

no actually 285 is a different architecture all together, 7950 and 280 are GCN 1.0, while 285 and 380 are GCN 1.2.
both 285 and 380 are Tonga dies, they're much more closer to Fiji or Hawaii in their architecture, plus it's IMC is much more efficient than Tahiti's.
theres also some other differences like DP performance, tahiti is 1/4 of SP performance, while Tonga is 1/16 of SP performance.

to point out:

Tahiti PRO
7950 = 800Mhz / 1792:112:32 / 384bit 3GB
280 = 827Mhz / 1792:112:32 / 384bit 3GB

Tonga PRO
285 = 918Mhz / 1792:112:32 / 256bit 2GB
380 = 970Mhz / 1792:112:32 / 256bit 2GB~4GB

I will be cleaning up the work shop tonight and have my first full rig going!

Here is a tease picture smile.gif waterblock loop goes like (in-> R9 285 -> CPU -> (7950 + 7950) -> out). I also mounted 4x H50s. Since I'm using older board, I had to tie wrap mount all 4 (3x LGA 775 and one AM3+). This was expected on my part when I got these. Included mounting with H50s is 1156 and up.

I apologize for the crappy pictures tongue.gif I should get better ones of my setup tonight.
