Product info and discussion - VARDAR radiator fans - Page 74

I just bought 4 more 140ER's to use push pull on my 560GTS radiator (been running pull for a few months with just my original 4 fans). I recieved them two days ago from PPCS, and they were terrible!!! They were super loud at 600 RPM and the had an electrical whine... All 4 brand new. I was livid because this is like the 5th time I've had to shipp back EK 140 and 120's combined. I've spent probably $50 in shipping alone to send them all back. Well PPCS got into contact with EK last night, and EK Is letting them send me 4 more 140ERs, while I can keep the faulty ones and throw them out.

This is my first real experience with EK support directly, and so far I'm loving it so far. gREAT JOB EK!

I'm going to be a rain storm here, but honestly in most countries returning defective product is at seller's expense. Many retailers don't want you to know this, but it is usually part of consumer rights laws. It is part of EU comsumer protection. wink.gif

This is not the same as if we order something and decide it isn't what we want.
When we order something and it's not as described and does not do the job it is supposed to do, the retailer is responsible for return postage.

I've gone through this sort of thing many times with companies (Corsair used to be terrible about this) trying to make me pay for RMA returns. As soon as I pointed out the law, they arranged pickup. wink.gif

Well I'm in the US, so I don't know if that's a law here. But with PPCS, they are a great company. If I make a mistake and forget to order something, they will solve it and calculate combined shipping, etc. I've made this mistake so many times.. I feel so bad, but they always end up fixing MY issue. The only time I've had to RMA with them is for EK vardars (and once I had to send back a faulty XSPC D5 PWM Pump)... Fans are just a hassle because it's almost like picking "the luck of the draw."

Back in 2014 when I first built my rig, I used corsair SP120's. I originally ordered them from Frys Electronics, and I returned them because they were bad. But I eventually wanted to try different variations of the SP120's (PWM and 3 pin, PE and QE, etc), and decided to order them through Amazon. The problem with Amazon is that you can't return past 30 days. So I went through almost 6 RMAs through Corsair over the course of like a year. The first few times I paid shipping back to corsair. Then I got so fed up, I had them send me shipping labels lol. Now, Corsair is probably one of my favorite companies because their Support has been awesome.

I lived in USA for about 50 years and had to do many RMAs. I found it less of a problem in USA then here. Often on things like monitors I would get advanced RMA and use deliver box to pack and return. No charges to me. Sometimes they want a CC number in case of defect not being returned, but that was the most they ever wanted. I

Stalefish, if you want silence go eloops, it is that simple smile.gif so far no contest on silence/perf ratio and bearing noise on sub 1500rpm.

I got so tired of my Vardar fans that i accully threw them in the garbage bin yesterday.
I really wanted to use them, all my water cooling stuff is EK, love the brand overall!

I had 6 vardar 1850 rpm version and yes the airflow and the pressure and overall cooling capacity was great!
I put the fans in and i took them out of my system like 3 times before i made up my mind.

Problem for me was 4 of 6 fans (!) hade a grinding/Squeeky noise from the motor. (I tested them all individually)
It was in that "Shove a screwdriver in my ear" frequenzy range that you could hear anywhere in your appartment. arrowheadsmiley.png

I only watercool 2 components and have a overkill rad-setup to run fans in a low rpm mode, and i did run the fans @ 1000rpm but didnt mather, what rpm same sound anyways.

-- Rant End --

So now my problem is that i have 3x SP120 fans and 3x noctua nf-s12b 1200 pwm fans in my rig (2x PE 360)
And i have NO IDEA what fans to use frown.gif The Noctua fans i use have better specs then the sp120 fans but i dont know. The redux fans are grey. haha... rolleyes.gif

Any recomendations for other fans?

And dont say gentle tyfoons, they have stoped making them and i cant get them here in Sweden.

Have been looking at the Corsair ML120 but few reviews out yet.

Important question.
Did the problem occur on voltage control or PWM control?

I have the same problem with my Vardar fans and the issue is not voltage control or PWN. It's the motor!
I have done RMA two times allready and the problem is still there, just not as loud as it was the first two times.

okay guys, I have got to ask the question.. how bad is it to control these fans with voltage? When i bought these fans i intended on controlling them by the motherboard but I only have one PWM header and from what I hear even using the Swiftech pwm splitters, 8-10 fans is the max. I really dont want to drop the money on an Aquareo. thoughts?

I'm using a corsair link commander mini. It's literally perfect to controll PWM fans. It cost me about $70 after tax and shipping from corsair directly. The reason for going with that was because, like you, I only had one true PWM header. Because I'm using two different PWM d5 pumps, the xspc one can't be controlled due to the "standard Intel something..." Since the corsair link doesn't control that, I needed to use the CPU header on my Maximus Vi hEro to control it. But anyways, the corsair link commander mini works perfectly for controlling the vardars

My only concern would be the 4 amp max for all fan headers and LED's . My 12 Vardars are rated at 8.4 amps at full power. You know, maybe I'll just dump one of the 560's and 4 fans and just run 8 fans and two 560's then I can just use the motherboard PWM header and be done with it.
