[Various] GTX Titan X Maxwell reviews - Page 27

Dat $800 8800 ultra. Nvidia had $$$ GPUs even way back then.

At least AMD still keeps it $500-550, but, who knows about 390x if the new memory technology and bigger die is anything to go by, probably $650, but hopefully not beyond that.

That price was really laughable seeing as it was just a slightly overclocked 8800GTX which sold for $530 at the time.

Yeah but the 8800 Ultra sold very poorly and was rather unpopular. The Titan was more or less a marketing success.

Yes, because the Titan was actually a faster gpu by architecture and wasn't just a wee OC of any model before.

Still its a way to make 2x money, Nvidia wished they did this a long time ago on their previous flagships.

Where'd you find blocks for sale?

Anyone: What is Nvidia's stance warranty wise on stock cooler removal since they're selling them direct?

Even if we assume a high cost of $.30 per kWh, 604.44kWh/year * $0.30/kWh = $181.33 premium for running R9 295X2 over the Titan X all year at 8 hours a day...

Considering the R9 295X2 is currently $700, it will take about 1 year 7 months and 25 days of running the cards at load for 8 hours a days before the Titan X becomes a better economic strictly from an electricity cost prospective.

Also, good luck overclocking the Titan X, most reviews found it rather limited on the stock cooler...

So TITAN X = gaming card?

So launch a gaming card and label it a quasi-professional card to justify the price and then a generation late remove the double precision and then keep the price the same and justify the price by virtue of branding... I must say, Nvidia has made milking of the gaming community into an art.

They are creating a niche class of cards considering the diminishing market for discrete GPUs:

If you game for 8 hours a day, 7 days a week... you have more pressing issues thumb.gif

Should learn math before you try to use math thumb.gif

62/48 = 1.29 = Titan is 29% faster than the HD 7970

100/70 = 1.428 = Titan X is 42.8% faster than the R9 290X

Also, since the GHz Edition was out when the Titan was released:
62/53 = 1.17 = Titan is 17% faster than the HD 7970 GHz Edition

True, it is dual GPU vs single GPU... However, I wouldn't call Maxwell a fresh architecture... it has been out since Feb 2014... It is only 4 months younger than GCN 1.1...

Man, I can't wait to replace my 780... Not gonna get a titan x but maybe a custom cooled 390x or 980ti would do nicely!

I'm amazed at how much this card destroys my 780 though, whatever I get is going to be a nice upgrade.
