Hi,
I would like to be able to run Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor (hereafter "Mordor") without admin privileges. This would allow my keyboard driver program (Roccat Ryos MK Pro) to auto-switch profiles when the game launches.
When I first installed the game, it would crash to desktop within a second or two, having only showed a black screen, but when I set either the game .exe or steam.exe to run with admin privileges, it worked perfectly. When I got my keyboard a few weeks later, I found that the driver program would not switch profile with admin privileges enabled. In frustration, I tried Mordor without admin privileges and it worked perfectly.
When I tried to launch the game tonight, I found once again that Mordor would crash to desktop exactly the same way, with the solution once again being to launch the exe with admin privileges, which of course means my keyboard driver is not auto-switching anymore.
I had successfully run the game earlier today, and the only thing I can think of that might have changed the system at all is that I think something installed an MS vcredist. I think it might have been Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City but I'm not certain.
To make things stranger, Metro: Last Light Redux has exactly mirrored Mordor, having not worked until it or Steam got admin privileges, not allowing the keyboard driver to autoswitch, running successfully after admin privileges were removed, and now requiring these permissions again. The troubleshooting steps I remember trying are:
Verifying the game caches
Manually uninstalling the vcredist that came with GTA: Liberty City
Manually uninstalling, restarting and then reinstalling the vcredist and Directx that came with both games
Uninstalling and rebuilding both games from Steam backup
I'm sure there were many other things I tried, but because the crashes to desktop and admin privileges are acting as a perfect problem/solution match with two different Steam programs, it seemed that the problem was as well isolated as it could be. I am of course willing to try anything anyone can suggest.
If anyone can suggest a problem that could have been fixed by running admin permissions, no longer caused problems and then resurfaced with the same cure I'd be very grateful. On the other hand, if anyone can offer a possible fix that allows the keyboard to automatically change profiles, that would be good too.
Any help is welcome, thanks.
EDIT: Apologies, rig specs are:
