AMD Radeon™ R9 Fury X Graphics: Industrial Design





The AMD Radeon™ R9 Fury X graphics card industrial design was created with the goal of embodying a professional, elegant and simple design. Using multiple pieces of aluminum die cast finished in black nickel and a soft touch black, the full metal construction makes the graphics card feels as good as it looks. We are extremely pleased with the outcome of the design but also understand there are always different design ideas out there.

During the process of creating the industrial design for the AMD Radeon™ R9 Fury X graphics card we encountered a variety of unique perspectives within AMD on how it should look. These differentiating opinions made us think, what if we could enable our customers to implement their own creativity on our design? To do this we incorporated a removable front plate on the AMD Radeon™ R9 Fury X graphics card to allow for customer creativity. Below you will find a link to download the 3D model for the face plate to help get you started on designing your own 3D printed or CNC front plate.

Please ensure to take all necessary precautions prior to removing the front plate from the graphics card; these include but are not limited to:

  • Do not remove the front plate while the graphics card is installed inside a system
  • Do not remove the front plate while the graphics card is powered or operational
  • Ensure your workspace is clear of debris and appropriate electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection is taken
  • The front plate can be removed by removing the four hex screws from the front of the graphics card as illustrated below
    • Do not remove any other screws or modify any other components on the graphics card
  • Use a proper hex key or screwdriver to remove the screws from the front plate to avoid damaging the screws
    • When reinstalling the screws do not to over tighten the screws

I want to join this thread officially so bad I'd sell my grandma if it made it happen faster. While I am unsure about HBM effects on throughput vs vram size and high resolutions with games. I am hoping for the best on that front. If not I may be joining 290x 8gb until 3xx comes with 8 gb :)

Just curious, since its not official yet price wise. What price range would be acceptable for people? Say it was 8GB 390x? Or since we don't know even 4GB?

I am looking at wanting to get 3 of these, but of course price may change that.

$849.00 (390x) is a quote coming from insiders @ newegg and some Chinese distribution outlets. -Sources are the same ones who leaked the correct price 295x2 months before they came out.

Personally , I wouldn't buy these cards at launch. AMD has a history of taking their time on perfecting drivers for newly released cards. Delayed drivers for AAA titles , buggy crossfire profiles.. Knowing AMD's history we have a lot of frustration to look forward to .

Yeah i am used to AMD now, plus im locked into AMD with my setup now. 849$ is really too much for my tastes. That said i bought my 290's on launch day and liked them even with driver issues. I don't think people will have any issues with one of these 390x which is what most likely will be the most used scenarios. I don't expect it to be perfect out the gate, it's just the way the PC market is nowadays.

If they do cost 850$ then i may hold off unless they are just too irresistible on performance. Really my biggest factors are going to be price, and extreme resolution performance 4k+. So i also wonder what the secondary top card will be like price/perf wise.

I don't think the 390x will be released before the 390 does. If I remember correctly it will be a few weeks late compared to other 3xx series cards. Price wise I believe the 390 will be a sub $600.00 card so that could be affordable if the performance in 4k is there.

- I'm waiting on the 395x2 ($1500.00 msrp) which will be out months later. By then the drivers and crossfire bugs should be ironed out.. (hopefully)

Judging by how small it is HBM really made an impact on the Cards physical size so i imagine power consumption might be down as well

With AMD maximizing the HBM with an interposer to stack the ram within the GPU, it sure is pretty cool to see how it affects the overall design of the GPU. I'm looking forward to a R9 395X2 dual GPU PCB being about 10.5 inches. Imagine that! hahaha

Depending on where you sit on that issue, the competition sets the bar high on price. So chances are from that standpoint it will be less.

I will be ready to put these bad boys to the test and it won't be a measly 4k or 5k

I just want to see the naked PCB and die. I want to know exactly how much real estate is freed, what the die looks like, can we expect a super short gfx card, all of this!

BTW, people asking/begging for 8GB versions, it absolutely will NOT happen until 490X (or later). This is first generation HBM and first generation HBM has already had its specs and limitations set in stone, which include 4GB maximum capacity. I'm too lazy to google it for other people, but later generations will get a higher total capacity.
