I understand that the 480 is going to be restocked this week to reduce the absurd $330-$500 price back down towards $270 but is this from people actually thinking they can sell these cards for those prices or is it some tinfoil hat conspiricy surronding nvidia trying to get people to buy their 10 series cards by buying up all the amd cards and trying to resell them overpriced?
Pricing of last gen AMD cards is indeed interesting. There are literally two or three retailers in entire Europe that are selling 390/390x/Fury/FuryX for proper price that takes current market state into account and that they cannot be sold for release price anymore since there are newer and more powerful cards at lower price with Polaris and Pascal. There are very few offers like this and only for selected models. But forvery most of retailers AMD cards price is still like nothing happened and they were released week ago. And at the same, entire GeForce 900 series got serious price cut...
Also, I don't know how it is like in other countries, but in Poland GTX 1060 came in proper price and you can get the cheapest blower cooler AIB card for like 1249 which is actually a bit below bottom MSRP, while all RX 480 references came at 1349 price, which is way over MSRP that was set to 1170. I am not a fanboy of any side and I had both green and red cards, but what is happening now in Poland is clearly price fixing to break AMD sales.
So this either poor price politics and poor influence on prices by AMD, or there is some serious price fixing going on.
