What would you like to see from Silicon Lottery? - Page 11

Dont know about SKL but HW hates you touch cache and will piss in your face if you try to OC it.

Using highly OC RAM or large DIMMs may force you to lower OC depending on how the memory controller handles it. You may need to tinker with the memory controller so its stable and that may or may not force you to slightly lower OC.

no idea what you are talking about. ram timings and speed can help depending on the platform but alotta time its just as effective to raise your cache to be equal or higher than core.
you can get 5-15% performance increase, depending on IC. with Skylake or haswell-e

Sorry my shortening scheme was not clear. "SC CPU" = Silicon Lottery CPU. But yes in generally higher RAM speeds = slightly higher performance?

Hmm... So unless you are using the 16GB 2133MHz 15-15-15-35 RAM that Silicon Lottery recommends you are basically throwing your "guaranteed OC" to the wind?

Thanks!

no...what i said is you may have to made other adjustments depending on many factors...and you may have a slight low in overclock and you may not. too many variable to say with certainty. Just that adding high clocked ram thats harder on the memory controller may cause more stress than in their build.
Ahh I see. So basically whether or not high-speed RAM works with the overclock is a gamble. It may work and it may not. Worst case scenario you either drop the RAM clock or drop the CPU clock.

Thanks!

i am skipping SKL for kaby lake but when i get it i plan on getting 3200MHz RAM or whatever has the best latency. When i upgrade. ATM one of the best latency RAMs is the Gskill 3200 CL 14 and when i upgrade i am getting that unless there is a better ram out. I am not too worried about it but its possible you may have to fittle a little more but also note SL doesn't even do all the settings needed for a stable rig. A few settings that may help with stability...depending on a few thing are even set so you an still do a quite a bit of tweaking on these chips still.

so you dont even have a skylake?

hah

I oc ram on top of cpu oc just fine unless I am on MSI's trash

i have 4.8GHz HW but the same applies for HW as with SKL or any other chip. The more load you give it in other ways over what SL does means the more likely hood you might have different results.

haswell and skylake are completely different beasts.. so far my imcs havent changed voltages much from xmp to high voltage super high bench runs...

point is you set IO and you are good unless you have purposely gone as low as you can go v wise...
personally I haven't ever needed more v than the autos would do for vccio (or whatever it is I dont have any boards on hand.. waiting for damn mocf to drop. impact is trash. big ocf is a KILLER board... )

Dialed in 3466MHz 2x4GB ram XMP settings with a 6700K from siliconlottery at 4.8GHz, no issues getting there in about 90seconds with a Maximus VIII Extreme board.

Planning on moving to 3866MHz 2X8GB sticks as soon as the price falls or maybe the 4000MHz 2x8GB kit when it drops to around $150.

Overall responsiveness of the rig is improved with the 3466 ram speed slightly in everyday use, no particular specific software, from say running 2133MHz, but not the improved responsiveness I expected, not like adding on your first ssd.

that particular board benefits more from 4 sticks due to its mem layout
