Planning on moving to 3866MHz 2X8GB sticks as soon as the price falls or maybe the 4000MHz 2x8GB kit when it drops to around $150.

Overall responsiveness of the rig is improved with the 3466 ram speed slightly in everyday use, no particular specific software, from say running 2133MHz, but not the improved responsiveness I expected, not like adding on your first ssd.

As tatmMRKIV said, definitely go for a 4x4 kit. The VIII extreme can't do 4000MHz memory stable, trust me I've tried. Stick with 3866 or less. You'll have to jump on the impact board for 4000+.

are you sure you need the bandwidth? Your most likely getting poopier(-_-) latency in the end. Just double check the RAM with this calculator and make sure your not getting crappy latency. Last I check there was only one RAM that had better latency than 3200 CL 14 but it only came in 4GB sticks. 3200 CL 14 is the best RAM that is in 16GB DIMMS

download this excel sheet. It will give you the 1st, 4th, and 8th word latency for any RAM. It has all the formulas needed to calc those up automatically. Please share the excel sheet so people can make sure they don't buy junk RAM.

Benching≠Stable I can get 4GHz to boot with some effort, but the idea of passing memtest or GSAT is miles away.

and my response would be whats the point than?......If it doesn't work at those speeds it doesn't matter. It is like well my car had 1000 horepower with nitro but i can only do that for 5 seconds....once....so big whoop

all you guys with your dailies rolleyes.gif...... Cowards and noobs, who dont push v or even touch secondary timings should shut their mouths...
prove 4000 stable with cl 12 and post all settings. I am calling errr i mean balderdash. ..stupid forum policy

I said bench cl 12 4k... stability and benching are 2 different things.. for the thousandth time.. but I can do something like cl 11-12 3200 or whatever.
if asrock had better bios support for x99, I could probably nail down c11 3333 but I hit a issue after a week in with bios. and I am not binning b -die anytime soon...

new diesel trucks are waaaay cooler than pcs

which is waaaaaay better than what I have seen from anyone who keeps trumpeting 24/7 OCs

3200 cl 12 isnt special. U can buy 3200 cl 14 right now.
