I "close" the sides w/ griptape.

How about some 3D printed side panels for the G302/3?

if someone could do this, how much more effort would it take to make a completely new shell?

The entire bottom could be 3D printed, but I think the top would be much more difficult. I don't really know the quality of the plastics or the limitations of what can be made. If you could 3D print an entire shell, people should really look into it.

I think a 3D printed design would put the PCB further forward than the G302/3, that way the scroll wheel isn't so far back. This would move the sensor far forward, I don't know if people would like that, I would.

For us sure, but Logitech can't ignore warranty. Not that I'm knowledgeable about law or anything, but I'd imagine they have some responsibilities regarding such things.

Just the bottom half would already be enough to change the grip completely so that different people could have what they like best, so I feel your only-print-the-bottom idea would already be super great. You could do all kinds of stuff like change the \__/ shape into a |__| or even /__\, or if you give up on having the left/right button surface extend to the very edge of the mouse you could make it wider or a bit asymmetrical like a G9.

Couldn't make my G302 comfortable with just tape. Here's my version, first attempt. Removed side panels, glued chunks of foamed plastic in their place and cut into comfortable shape with a sharp knife. Took a bit too much from the back end so added some rubbery mat to make it rounder. End result seems so comfortable that I'm thinking of buying G303 and doing something similar. Will have to test a bit, though.

(After gluing, before shaping)

(Final 1st attempt)

+Comfortable
+Light (75g or so)
+No performance impact
-Sides not that rigid or durable (squeezing left side hard triggers side buttons)
-Potential fire hazard

lulz.

Why would you even bother... why not just return it when it's clearly a problem and go with a different mouse...

Posted a separate thread for an initiative to get a 3D printed side panel alternative going.

Aren't you the proud owner of this mouse?
